This is a great idea. I didn't know you could do this. [emoji4]

  2. The port director and RCI stated this at the tourism summit in May.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. Since RCI was there for the tourism summit in May, I'm hoping this means another RCI ship with some different itineraries will be offered.

We enjoy cruising on the ships/itineraries offered from Galveston, but I'm hoping for some longer cruises in the future. Also, it would be nice to have a different cruise line available as well.

  3. Thank you all for the information. I 'm sure I will have many more as I start serious planning for this trip. As my main purpose is to experience and learn as much as possible about the canal. Happy Memorial Day especially to all our veterans.,
Planning is half the fun. [emoji4]

  4. Princess does not give an military discount. They give OBC depending on the length of the cruise. You have to apply for it and furnish them proof of eligibility. It cannot be requested after the cruise. EM
I've had a military discount on all my previous cruises. Has Princess decided to discontinue it?

  5. One reported use of the new port is potentially for Oasis sized ships. I hope th8s does happen. I live 30 minutes from the port and do love the Oasis of the Sea so being able to take a short drive to get on one would be awesome.
This would be fantastic! You said "one reported use." Do you have this information from a reliable source?

  6. We've cruised on both ships, the Caribbean for a New England/Canada cruise and the Island for our partial transit cruise. We enjoyed both ships, but between the two I would pick the Island. It was our first time on a ship that size and we loved it.

  7. Thanks for the great slideshows and beautiful photos ! We're booked on the Island for a 15 day cruise from FLL through the Canal to San Francisco over Thanksgiving this year. So, we're always interested in seeing/reading more information. Much appreciated, from EBC:)

You're very welcome. It's a wonderful itinerary and a great way to celebrate a holiday. Happy Cruising!

  8. Since this is our first and probably only Panama ;)Canal cruise, would you recommend staying on the ship for the partial transit or taking the ferry excursion. We have an inside cabin and so will be out and about most of the time on this cruise.

We didn't take an excursion on that day. My wife and I stayed on the ship and found the experience very interesting. I suggest that before you get to the transit part of the cruise, take a walk around the ship to get familiar with the different viewing areas.

Although we had a wonderful balcony, we spent time in the aft and forward upper decks at different times throughout the day. We found it all very fascinating to watch the different things that went on throughout the entire process.

It is humid and warm so you will want to go back inside from time to time. It takes several hours to complete the transit in and back out of the locks so pace yourselves.

In case you haven't had a chance to see my wife's slide show of the transit part of the cruise, I'll insert a link below. It may help you decide what to do on that day.

We stayed aboard for both our partial transit and full transit cruises.

Feel free to ask more questions. People here are very helpful.

  9. You will never know what other cruise lines offer unless you try them.

A few years ago my wife suggested Holland America for a 14 day Alaska cruise. I was reluctant because it has a reputation for being a cruise line for "old people." I was very impressed with the entire experience and we cruised with them again for a full Panama Canal transit which we also enjoyed tremendously.

We both enjoy Royal Caribbean cruises, but choose the cruise line based on the itinerary we want.

  10. We were in a full suite on both our partial and full transit. On the Island Princess our suite was mid ship as was our Neptune Suite on the Westerdam.

We were out and about on both cruises so my wife could take pictures for her website from many different vantage points including forward, aft, port and starboard sides of the ships as well as from our balconies on both cruises.

Regardless of the ship, the star of the itinerary is the Canal. Enjoy it however you want to. It's your choice and your cruise.

Happy Travels wherever you go! Cruising is a fantastic way to travel and see what you want to see.
