  1. All these extra travel expenses have gone up as well but I've found Royal's in some cases are crazy. Not changing lines but canceling instead in favor of land destinations.
  2. Yes they do! Several ports delivered scooter to the cabin. We use the rollator to get to the terminal and ask for wheelchair assistance. Those ramps are horrible if you’re handicapped.
  3. We used to use the Citibank Costco Visa because it gave you cancellation insurance if you used it to pay for your cruise. They stopped it but sometimes I use it for the 3% cash back or I use the Royal visa card but we cruise often so it's worth it and we use it for onboard credit. Some cards do still give you cancellation insurance if you use their card but I think those cards are the cards you have to pay for, like a platinum thing so not buying a card.
  4. Thank you for that info. The price difference between Scootaround and Special Needs was over $100. You have to pay extra for the insurance with Scootaround and it's included with Special Needs so when we found that out we switched to Special Needs. I'll check out using the promo code. We just reserved a scooter for our next cruise Jan 7 seven night with Special Needs and it was $194. We have another cruise in Feb so I'll check out getting a promo code reduction.
  5. Service wise we’ve used Scootaround several times with no problems fora mobility scooter. We use Special Needs at sea because it’s much less expensive, only reason 😊
  6. I would recommend you do call the special needs. Falling in the shower cause an injury so don’t risk it. My husband is unsteady and the shower bench/chair is great. Enjoy the Harmony!
  7. On the main page scroll down and check accessibility at sea. LIST OF EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES REQUIRING ADVANCE NOTICE 60 days prior to sailing Sign language interpretating services 30 days prior to sailing Raised toilet seat Commode chair Shower stool Transfer bench Service animal relief area Large print material TTY Visual-tactile alert system Assistive listening devices Medical refrigerator Sharp's container Distilled water Extension cord Oxygen supply delivery Dialysis supply delivery Closed captioned television
  8. Yes they do have grab bars. You can order a shower chair/bench through special needs on the Royal website. We ordered one but we had a tub and it was a bit large for the tub but should be fine in the shower. I think you need to let them know your request 3 weeks ahead but you can do it now. The shower on the Harmony is a nice size so you should be fine with the shower chair.
  9. We bring the rollator anyway and I just push it empty and put carryon luggage on it. If no scooter at the entrance we ask for wheelchair assistance and the staff direct us from there. Also having the rollator is insurance in case something goes wrong with the scooter. Port Canaveral always has them outside the terminal. NJ no, in cabin and now Tampa no in cabin also.
  10. I wish it was standard, deliver at the terminal so it can be used to board the ship. Also for disembarking. Getting the wheelchair assistance in NJ worked fine. We have a walker/rollator so that was fine. Sorry for that 2 hr wait through security. Not acceptable for handicapped passengers. 😑
  11. Thank you, will do! Yes our stateroom is a GS. We never book anything less than a JS because of the scooter.
  12. Ah! Thank you. OK, that explains it. In PC they are at the door to the terminal. Boarding the ship is very difficult for mobility impaired people and it's so nice to get it at the door. SO plan B is get wheelchair assistance at the terminal. One thing to consider when the scooter goes to the cabin: We sailed out of NJ in September and we had a Royal UP and our cabin changed two days before boarding and the mobility scooter was to go to the cabin as per the port rules. So we called Special needs and they changed it to the new cabin. Unfortunately the ship did not so they put the mobility scooter in the original cabin. I had to run all over the ship to try and find it. Not good. We have a Royal up on this cruise and I'm canceling it to avoid that nightmare again.
  13. We've rented a mobility scooter in Port Canaveral and they deliver the scooter outside the terminal which makes it very easy to board the ship. Sailing from Tampa in January and they informed us that they delivery to the cabin. I had been told before that they meet you at the terminal in Tampa so we're confused. Scootaround says they delivery to you at the port. Anyone have experience renting in Tampa on Royal?
  14. I read the below and I don't see a limitation of 1,000 per day exactly, it's a monthly limit. It says they've reached an agreement with the cruise industry. I'm sure there will be some kind of thing worked out with the cruise lines schedules but it appears 2023 is grandfathered in during the big months of Sept and Oct. Going forward there will probably less visits. None in April or November except next year. The town council of Bar Harbor, Maine, on Tuesday officially approved an agreement with the cruise industry that places caps on cruiser arrivals during the tourist season of between 30,000 and 65,000 a month starting in 2023. The agreement also bans cruise ship arrivals during the shoulder-season tourism months of April and November. β€œWe have had a clear message from the public that they want cruise ships decreased,” Bar Harbor town council member Erin Cough said Tuesday in advance of a five-to-two vote to sign off on the agreement. β€œAt this point, we've been asked by our community to do something, and this is our best effort at doing something that is reasonable, and we should go for it." For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter The vote took place during a televised town council meeting after a rigorous debate over whether the town council should first hold a public hearing on the specifics of the agreement. The council decided not to hold a public hearing before approving the agreement but voted to hold a question-and-answer session with the public in October to explain the agreement. The agreement limits cruiser arrivals to 30,000 per month in May and June; 40,000 per month in July and August; and 65,000 per month in September and October. Those are the six months when cruise ships have traditionally visited Bar Harbor. During the discussion, Bar Harbor city manager Kevin Sutherland noted the capacity of cruise ships currently booked to visit Bar Harbor in both September and October of 2023 already exceeds the new limits. Sutherland said the excess ship arrivals would be allowed in 2023 because they were booked before the agreement was approved. However, he said the city had already begun telling cruise lines that moving forward it wouldn't take any new docking reservations for ship arrivals during those months.
  15. I don't know if this is possible but Prince Edward Island is beautiful.
  16. We've had the same issues with the people of Charleston SC. They hated the cruise ships, they fly big flags out their door with a picture of the whale tail and a big x through it. The battle went on for years. Now there is no more home porting after a certain date but they will accept day stops but they can only accommodate maybe one ship,
  17. I'm sure you can as long as you don't exceed the number of people booked in the Cabana.. You'll have a cabana attendant and he will do basically whatever you want. For what Royal is charging for Cabana's these days you should get pedicures and manicures too!
  18. Definitely. And my Royal Vacation Planner was unceremoniously fired as were all of them. I loved him and apparently Royal doesn't let the clients know that they're all gone.
  19. We've had mobility scooters on the Oasis class ships and didn't have problems with the elevators but you should avoid during the high usage times as you mentioned.. The aft elevators go to the WJ so they're a little more crowded during prime eating times.
  20. It was! I remember leaving the show room to catch a peak and you could see the Fjords through the clouds and fog, it looked like we were really close to them, I went back inside and decided to forget about it and keep my fingers crossed! 😳
  21. We were on the same cruise!! It was just the best cruise and loved the extra time in Quebec!
  22. Absolutely!!! Never get two in a "regular" cabin!! I didn't catch that it was both Mom and Dad!!
  23. We rent a scooter from Special Needs at Sea. They only ask what your cabin number is. I don't think they really care. Royal has never asked. It would be more comfortable for you if you could get an accessible cabin but it's not a deal breaker. Call Royal or your TA to put yourself on a wait list for the accessible cabin. If you are in a regular cabin where the bed is not by the window, balcony or whatever, it will be snug. Better if the bed IS by the balcony door or a window. What you can do is have your cabin steward pick it up at night and they will charge it and bring it back in the AM or when you want it. You don't have to but you can. A Junior Suite is a good cabin size for a scooter. There's a top on CC for handicapped cruising and they have a lot of info. You can also ask Royal for a shower chair which is helpful. You can bring those removable handles for the shower also. We also bring a bath mat so the shower is not slippery.
  24. The exact reason we stopped cruising with HAL. We were given a fan! LOL Shame because we did like the overall HAL experience. But went to Royal in 2007 and never looked back.
  25. Agree with you. Last time we did it was June and we had to wait over an hour for the shuttle to take us back to the hotel. We were not the only ones either. Some had planes to catch also. I looked up some of those car options and it looks like it's $200 each way. Last time we used the limo service it was $50 each way so times have changed I guess. We decided to take the hotel van over and then cab it back to the hotel. Going there isn't so bad, it's the return pick up that was the worst. Believe me I raised hell with the hotel and the service. Hotel said they have nothing to do with the transportation. They take the money so they should expect their customers to have some kind of good service. The transportation people said they had traffic??! Really, I would think you would know that since you do the transportation every day and know there are people waiting. So I hope the plan works with the taxi but we have a lot of luggage and a walker so it has to be big!
