  1. I'm usually the kind of person who books a cruise about a year out and spent the next 12 months pouring over all the info I can find about it. My best friend and I booked a cruise together last week...and it leaves December 3rd! For me, it's a last minute vacation. I've been reading up on it a bit, but I wanted to double check with CC about reserving things ahead of time. From what I can tell, I don't need to make any kind of reservations ahead of time for Freedom. Is that true? (My last cruise was on Anthem, and I spent a good bit of time books MTD, iFly, booking shows, etc, so I just want to make sure that I am not missing anything here.)

We have MTD, but are willing to wait for a bit so we can 'wing it' each day.

  2. I had bariatric surgery about a year ago. I'm doing well, but sometimes rely on protein shakes to get my protein up for the day. I contacted the special needs department to see if I could bring ready to drink shakes with me. They said yes, as long as they were sealed. I do plan on putting them in my carry on. I'm also bringing a pack of bars, just in case, especially for ports. Have a great cruise!

  3. Hi all,

I planned a walking tour of Nassau for myself and my family, stopping by a few things that interest us. It will be myself, my husband, and our 10 year old son. Here is our plan:

    Nassau, Bahamas

    Walking Tour

    • Begin at Prince George Wharf (cruise terminal)

    • Pirate Museum: King and George Street. (Turn right on Bay Street, left on George) Hours: 9:00am-6:00pm

    • Public Library: Shirley Street, between Parliament and East Streets. Hours: 10:00am-3:45 pm

    • Queen’s Staircase: Elizabeth Avenue South. From Library: Left on Shirley street, Right on Elizabeth Avenue

    • Fort Finncastle: located next to Queen’s Staircase

    • To get back to cruise terminal, go north on Elizabeth Avenue, left on Bay Street

Is there anything else I should add to this? Any great places to eat on our way through Nassau that we should check out? Any comments welcome!

    Thank you for the help!

  4. I am 1mth post op and booked a cruise but we are 1 yr away. I am going to miss that melting cake. UGH! But being able to wear shorts and not feel stared at is even better. I wonder if lobster would be ok...

I bet lobster would be fine. I have had it once or twice since my surgery, and it didn't cause me any trouble. For me, shrimp and seafood tend to be easier to digest than any other kind of protein.

  5. Wow! It sounds like you had a rough time of it after surgery! Glad it worked out okay in the end. I had RNY gastric bypass. I do focus on protein first, but don't have a problem eating salad greens. Dry meat is a no go for me (chicken and pork especially). I make my own Greek yogurt that is high in protein and eat it every day for breakfast. Seafood is usually a good option for me, as it tends to be moist and tender. Because I am not able to eat very much at a meal, I do supplement with a protein shake most days, to make sure I'm getting all the protein I need. I contacted the special needs department of RC, and they said that bringing on premixed shakes will be fine. We sail in 3 weeks, and I can't wait!

  6. I need to monitor my sugar intake for health reasons. I can occasionally eat a few bites of a regular dessert, but try to stick with lower sugar options, if I can. We are sailing on Anthem in a month. I know there is no sugar added ice cream on the menu in the MDR. I've also heard of people ordering fresh fruit for dessert. Are there other low sugar options for dessert in either WJ or MDR?

  7. (I hope this is the right place to post this.)

I had bariatric surgery (rny gastric bypass) in April of 2016. It has been life changing for me. I've lost about 130 pounds and have been able to stop all the medications I needed to take before.

I have my first post-surgery cruise coming up, and wondered if there are other bariatric cruisers out there who have any tips for me?

I figure breakfast will be easy. Eggs or yogurt. I should be able to do salads for lunch (I'm sure there has to be some protein available for salads). We normally do MDR for dinner. That may be a little tricky, but RCI has shrimp cocktail every night, which is a good choice for me.

Will I be allowed to bring pre-mixed protein shakes on board? I usually need one a day to make my protein target

Other tips or advice? Thank you!!

  8. Hi all,

I'm sure this has been answered, but I tried looking for it, and didn't have any luck. Port Canaveral is the first stop on my upcoming Anthem cruise out of Cape Liberty. My family and I are interested in enjoying Cocoa Beach. Can I get a taxi or uber from Posrt Canaveral to the pier at Cocoa Beach? Is it easy to get transportation back when we are finished?

    Thank you!
