  1. I was born, raised, worked and retired in So Cal (even helped decorate a float once in school). This is my second New Year's in Oregon, I realized this morning how weird it was not hearing Bob Eubanks and Stephanie Edwards commentary during the parade. Both broadcasts here had commercials and hardly showed any of the horses and marching bands! Really made me miss my "home" - but I did get a big kick out of seeing the Princess float and all the cast members - nice job Princess.

I've checked in on the the other broadcasts over the the years and they are just a little short of awful. Haha. We are very lucky in So Cal to have the knowledgable and funny team of Bob and Stephanie. Us locals only watch KTLA for the parade. Sorry you missed it!

  2. Or, I can stay with Carnival and just enjoy my balcony and the evening sunset with the bottle of wine I brought on board at embarkation and not spend any money in the lounges. Not sure that's what Carnival has in mind either.

I found the best entertainment on the Inspiration a couple weeks ago. The Violin bar was packed every night with the best band I've ever seen on a cruise ship! I didn't see a decline in entertainment on this cruise from a couple years ago.

  3. I wonder if any of the people posting here that they don't care about entertainment (gee, same 2 or 3 people that show up in every thread with anything negative Carnival, claiming a cut is an upgrade) EVER cruised more than 10 years ago, or even 20+ years ago and can remember the PHENOMENAL high energy, well done, rehearsed, choreographed entertainment Carnival was WELL KNOWN for.

Maybe they don't go to shows because, well, they are mostly crap now? Maybe if the entertainment was as lavish and exciting as it used to be they'd think differently? Or maybe they are just paid off by Carnival to post on this forum and downplay and negative opinions people have about cutbacks and reductions.

Hey, if you REALLY don't care about entertainment, go find another thread to post in. Carnival has lost tens of thousands of dollars of my bookings in recent years because I don't pay to watch a game show with guests as the main entertainment. I remember the colorful sets, big bands, great flashy dancers, etc. It's not the type of entertainment I go to at home, but it is part of the cruising experience. If you want to sit in a deck chair and hum to yourself, have at it, but getting a little sick of the same few people jumping into every conversation to defend cutbacks and telling others it doesn't matter.

I've been cruising since 2000 and the theater shows have always pretty much sucked! We stopped going to them years ago. We noticed on our last cruise a couple weeks ago on the Inspiration that throughout the ship the live music bands and comedians were the best we have ever seen on a cruise ship.

  4. I'd forgotten they used to have different sittings at breakfast and lunch. I'm glad they did away with that!

I did too! I vaguely remember having lunch on my first cruise on the Holiday and we were at our assigned table with our dinner server in a mostly empty dining room. That was in 2000 and it must of changed not much after that cruise.

  5. We were always denied a booth for 2 people. We dine between 6-7

was told booths accomadate 3-4 people and booths were needed for larger dining times.

we also got those tables for 2 that were really a table for 6 which were separated by mere inches. not bad if we were on the ends but sitting in the middle made dining extremly uncomfortable.

Next cruise we have traditional. sailing with my dad- he will not want to dine with others. so i will check my sign and sail card-- head to the dining room after lunch to check my table.

They have always honored my request for a booth but sometimes we've had to wait for one. We usually dine around 8 pm so maybe that is why we have always been accommodated.

  6. With Your Time I always ask for a booth. Some of the 2 tops are just 6 tops that have been pulled apart but are just way to close to the other tables.

  7. I was on the Majesty of the Seas (1992) last month, and even without having all those bells & whistles, she is loved by many Royal loyalists! Someone who doesn't know, can't say that she is 22 years old. They take very good care of this old lady.

Always when I see a Fantasy Class ship, I see a sad looking ship. Don't know if it's the design or what, but they are the most unappealing cruise ships to me.

I thought that the Inspiration was in much better shape 2 weeks ago then the Monarch was in 2004. The Monarch was a sister ship of the Majesty, right? Did the Majesty have all of that ugly dated brass that the Monarch had?

  8. I think it's a choice as to how you view life. I heard a lot of complaints on this trip. If I could, I distanced myself from those people. I'm on a cruise to relax and experience new things, not soak up other people's negative energy.

Couldn't of said it better. It looks like the op would not of been happy if everything was perfect.
