  1. Good morning all. Thanks Rich and all who contribute to this wonderful thread. People down here have been celebrating Halloween for almost a full month with parades, balls and parties every weekend since the first. Today is a witch ride where over 500 people dress as witches, ride bikes in mass through three miles of town. Since it starts at a bar and ends at a bar there are many accidents. My son will be one of the safety patrol for the ride to stop traffic, pick up injured and otherwise try to help manage 500 bike riders through the streets of downtown. He thinks I need to come watch the madness. I can't say I will be sad to see Halloween finally come and be over. I hope all Dailyites have a great weekend.
  2. Lindaler will be on the Volendam Dec. 17-27, Dec. 27 - Jan. 3, 2023, and then Jan.3 for the Grand South American Voyage. Also on Volendam Dec. 22, 2023-Jan. 3, 2024 and then on Jan. 3, 2024 for the Grand Australia and New Zealand Voyage until April 6, 2024.
  3. I remember you from the holiday cruise, @garlictown. Those are great pictures. Not sure why there are no other people sitting out. It looks wonderful and a great way to catch up with people. That and trivia seem to be the easiest places to run into people.
  4. Other cruisers that I've talked to that have had a lanai seem sold on the design. I do know that they are the first to sell out. I hope that I don't feel like I'm in a fish bowl but it seems to be a good way to be more social without going to large events.
  5. The pictures of the deck on another site seem to show chairs lining 2/3 of each side. If there are 40 connected to the lanais then I would guess from the pictures there are over 100 spread over both sides not reserved.
  6. There are lots and lots of chairs that are not outside the sliding doors of the lanai. They are there for anyone to use.
  7. Safe travels @HAL4NOW. I went to my first Halloween ball Saturday. Quite the experience. And tonight I go kayaking for something called Paddleween where everyone trick or treats on the river in costume with lights. Should be interesting and again another first experience for me. Prayers for all.
  8. That sounds like fun, watching the launching. I hope to meet lots of people. And I have offered to share the loungers with another solo passenger so maybe that will help.
  9. I need to add clothes pins to my list of get ready stuff. Thanks for the heads up again. I hope on the longer voyages people know to not sit there. I am pretty much an introvert and if I went outside to read and had to fight people to reclaim my lounger I would be very uncomfortable. I wouldn't want them to come back and pour liquid on my chair pads. Were they nice if you asked them to move?
  10. Thank you for the heads up. I was able to book my same cabin for the cruise right before my Grand Australian cruise. That way I won't have to move and will be already on the cruise and get to spend the holidays on a BHB
  11. Do the outside lights stay on all night? I heard that they turn most of them off about midnight but we will see. I too am a solo and also on the GA 2024 in these cabins. I know that if I have a balcony I will isolate myself by sitting on the balcony reading and such and by getting a lanai I will get to visit people as they pass or just people watch. If the lights are on for the promenade and the lights are off in your room would you still have to close the blinds?
  12. Yesterday I met my new doctor for here in Mobile. She is nice, I like her. But my arms are sore today. I got a flu and another booster in prep for my 91 days of cruising at the end of the year. Thanks everyone for their contributions to this forum.
  13. Good afternoon everyone. Thanks Rich and all who contribute. Since I went to the Art walk and a ghost hunt and a farmer's market and a birthday party, there is no way I can get out of today being clean the house day. Prayers for all.
  14. Good morning all. Thanks Rich and all who provide such wonderful information. Last night we went to an Art Walk downtown. Now Mobile can't just have an art walk. It closed maybe 15 blocks downtown and must have had 20k visitors. It was so crowded that the outhouses had a 25 minute line. It closed four blocks around a park to just let people roller skate. Another park had live music and tons of vendors. The streets were lined with vendors and parades and dancers.
  15. Thanks Rich and all who are posting from a cruise. It's kind that you are sharing your adventure and also not losing touch with your Daily family. Thanks all who are also sharing, whether traveling or at home. Should be a fun day in town with an art walk in which they bring out the giant puppets that walk the streets. There seems to be a Greek and Latino fair also in town. So much going on. Be safe and have fun.
  16. I am not a fan of door decorations. But the ones that really bother me are the balloons and stuff that stick out so far that you bump into them every time you walk down the hall. I know that it is the breeze that causes them to reach out and boop you on the head but why do they need to be so far out? A picture or bow is one thing but ten balloons is another. Please be respectful.
  17. Great photo of all of you. Did you get a blue light special? I guess you have to be old to know what that means.
  18. Thanks Rich and all who contribute to make this the place to be. Today is an in between day. Too early to start packing, too late to do summer chores, too early for Christmas, but Costco had pumpkin pies yesterday so it must be almost holiday time. I bought candy for treat or treaters. It will be the first time in six years since I lived where there could be kids coming by. Hope all are well and get over the hump day.
  19. Thanks Rich for taking time from your cruise to post the Daily and with maps. Thanks everyone for their special posts from food and drink to great shots of Hilo. Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian friends.
  20. Sharon, your picture reminds me of last year when we were all together. I can't wait for my turn to come. 91 days starts 65 days from now. I am getting excited. Yesterday afternoon my grandson and I went exploring again in downtown Mobile. So much to see and so much history to share. I hope I am teaching my gs to appreciate the magic of history. Prayers for all.
  21. Yes, thanks Rich for all you do. I hope your visits go well and the weather is nice to you. Thanks everyone who contributes to the Daily.
  22. With advanced notice they will have the most amazing food. You just need to give them enough notice to get the best vegan butter and cheeses. I think you have to let special needs department know of your needs.
  23. Good morning all. Thanks Rich for taking time on your cruise to send us the information we have become addicted to. As I sit at my desk I see the changes of fall. Fog over the river in the morning, the sun coming up later, the trees gently changing from bright green to shades of green yellow and some even turning red for accents in the reflections. Fall here is so much different then in the high desert of Oregon. By now there would be frost every morning and highs of 40 but here we got down to 60 last night. I have been invited to go camping with a kayaking group. Of course at my age it means taking the travel trailer. No bed on the ground for me any more. I like a bathroom with shower and hot water and a fridge. Come to think of it, my trailer is a lot like a cabin on a cruise ship. Prayers for everyone, and cheers for those who are celebrating.
  24. Good morning all. Safe travels Rich. Thanks everyone. I am up early as walmart text at 5am that a package was delivered Aug. 12. I got up and walked around outside. It was one that they had said was delayed but here it is Oct and it says, today on Aug. 12 it had arrived. I called and they refunded the amount but since I was already up and it was 60 and calm out I just stayed up. Can't miss these beautiful mornings.
