  1. I love it when you get in your stateroom and on the bed is the paper work telling you about the reduced deposit. You get to the loyalty ambassador choose your cruise then she says the magic words “SORRY your British it`s $450 deposit”

Really? That's not very good, terrible in fact. We are all paying why should it matter which country we're from

  2. Where can you earn any amount of interest that would factor in to your decision. I like the $100 deposit but not the non refundable part, risk is not worth the reward. So I only do specific bookings on board. Of course being retired and living in FL gives me the ability to book short cheap last minute cruises just so I can do onboard bookings. I call those cruises working, hey tough job but somebody has to do it!!

I'm curious what isn't refundable? We could change or canc up to the final payment. We are new at this so maybe we are missing something? As for the interest earned, on a $5000 cruise I'd still rather that money in my acct for the 15 mths than theirs! Hey, it may actually buy me a drink on board lol!

  3. I completely disagree about the next cruise credit, we love the the reduced deposit, why should Royal get my money when I can be earning interest? We also get a discount on cruises through my husbands work so never book on board but do like the reduced deposit. Just my opinion

  4. I'm leaving the theft issue alone. We are loyal RCI cruisers but swayed slightly a few weeks ago and did a last minute Alaska on Carnival Miracle. I will start by saying it was better than expected, our main complaint was the staff. It was about them first, if waiting for an elevator they got on first, got off first that sort of thing. Nothing to ruin the cruise just an observation, the buffet was very confusing and in sections, bar service in the MDR non existent on some nights. Every ship is differnt, every crew is different, you can't paint the entire fleet with any cruise line with the same brush. When people ask how Carnival was we say it was fine. I will say it was more the cruisers that put me "off" than the ship or crew.

    Cheers

  5. We are loyal RCI cruisers however, we just did a one week Alaska on Carnival, last minute and a great airline employee deal. I will say it was better than we expected but...... We are really excited to be going back to RCI in Sept for the Med. Yes, there were chocolates every night and towel animals, the choc weren't very good but the animals were! Yes, there was a pen, we always bring our own. We found the staff (not all) to not be as friendly as RCI, if we were at an elevator with a crew member they always went in and off first, never seen this with RCI. It could be hard to get bar service, yes we can go to the bar but never had this with RCI. The dining room wasn't what we are use to, I was wearing a dress and got strange looks, guess I should have had jeans and an Alaska sweat shirt on! (I don't own one!") I think Royal is just a little dressier than Carnival, this is a very subjective matter, lots of folks complain about all cruise lines. The few little things that we noticed on this didn't ruin our cruise what so ever but it was just observations. The one thing we really like was being able to take our own luggage off the ship, very quick.

  6. Thank your for all of the replies. A lot to consider.

Also, just checked the Jewel itinerary again, and it is now saying Tortola instead of St. Thomas, but there is no itinerary map posted..

So just checked cruisett.com and it also has the Jewel in Tortola that day.. Hmmm. Have never been to Tortola, has anyone been there and can comment?

We've been to Tortola, rented a car and went to Cane Garden Bay, it's a beautiful little Island, very hilly and lots of switch backs. We've been to the Southern Caribbean twice and love the ports, guess you have to decide if it's ports or ship that you're going for, such decisions! Enjoy which ever you choose

  7. We too got off the Miracle yesterday, we live in Victoria and know the weather very well. No long under wear! We had our goretex jackets and a fleece for layering, almost melted in Skagway! Tracy Arm was chilly in the morning, had my gloves on and drank coffee concoctions from the Eagles Nest bar! We had great weather in the fjord and saw lots of whales and a couple of bears. In Skagway we took the heli tour of the glacier, they landed and we walked around for a little while, coolest thing I've ever done, highly recommend this. We went zip lining in the afternoon and had a great time. In Juneau we did the bus trip to Mendenhall and also went up the tram. Our highlight of Juneau was Tracy's King Crab Shack, it was delish!

We booked this cruise three weeks before departure and got a great deal through an airline employee interline site, it was an inside cabin which I vowed would never have, it was actually just fine! We have never cruised Carnival before and were quite happy with it. Some of the service could have been better but it certainly did not ruin the cruise. We ate it the steakhouse 4 of our 7 nights, it was quieter than the "grape infested dining room!" I won't get into detail with what people were wearing, we prefer to dress up a little for dinners and that worked for us. Hope you enjoy the cruise, we spent a lot of time on the serenity deck, it was very nice. If you need any advice for Victoria let me know.

  8. That would be really tight, I live 5 minutes from the Gardens and it took us 45 minutes to get out of the parking lot one time. We now take the bus if going for fireworks. As others have said, if it's a ship excursion I'd do it. Keep in mind as others have said it's a mass of humanity trying to leave, we know lots of little short cuts but folks not familiar will take much longer.

  9. Has anyone stayed at the Radisson's? I know it is close to the beach, stores and etc. Got a good deal on the bidding site.. but did get the insurance just in case. Paid $75.00 plus taxes

    Cathy

We stayed there on our first trip, it was fine, conveniently located. I still prefer the Marriott but you can't really compare the both.

  10. Well it's not the closest but we stayed at the Marriott and Stellaris casino our last trip. It's located in the Condado area, very close to lots of great restaurants and right on the beach. It's a short cab ride to the pier. We've also stayed at the Raddison, it was fine but the Marriott is much nice, a higher price tag as well!

  11. Rome in Limo is the way to go! We utilized their services in Rome and Naples. All the raves on this board and Trip Advisor are well deserved. I hope you have a private guide in the Vatican. It truly enhances the experience. In Barcelona, you should definitely reserve tickets in advance for La Sagrada Familia. It is unbelievable. Walk Las Ramblas, go to Parc Guell, La Boqueria, have some tapas if you have time. I can't help with the other ports but they all sound fabulous. Have a great cruise.

Great advice about Barcelona, our son is going there next month so hopefully he'll give us ideas as well. Our group has booked a private guide for the Vatican. Thank you, I really appreciate it

  12. I was looking at Alaska because we have three weeks off in July with no firm plans but boy is it expensive. Our 16 night Med is cheaper than a one week Alaska. Only bonus for Alaska is we live in Victoria and the cruise ports are close. The other lucky thing about living here is we've seen killer whales about 300 yards from us while kayaking! Eagles, seals, sea lions, we live in a pretty amazing place, so I'll save the money and go RVing instead! For those that don't live on the coast though I'm sure you'll love Alaska.

  13. Lucky you. what are the ports?

Southampton, at sea, at sea, Gibraltar, at sea, Barcelona, Nice, Rome, Livorno, Cagliari, at sea, Malaga, Cadiz, Lisbon, at sea, at sea, Southampton. Whew, time to start memorizing! We have private tours booked through "Rome in Limo" for Rome and Livorno, we've joined in with a group from our roll call, only 8 people so should be fun. Any ideas for other ports would be much appreciated

  14. I love all the pictures. Once you are back and settled, I'd love to hear more about AOS. Our itinerary is st. Thomas, Curaçao. Aruba and St. Kitts. We have a lot if planning to do!
