  1. Just as it says how do I buy stock in carnival ! Im a old FF-EMTIV / farmer so Im not a money man but will invest in something I love !!!!

You'll do ok investing on your own without a broker , Go with Scottrade

$7.00 to buy $7.00 to sell , $500.00 will open you an account ,add to it as you like . Just invest what you are confortable with . Have'nt looked at Carnival stock price lately 100 shares are around $3500.00

That's exactly what we did. I researched online brokers and liked Scottrade the best. For $7.00, I opened an account and purchased 100 CCL shares.

DH and I were figuring out the interest we are earning. With quarterly dividends of $25, plus the special $50 we are getting for this past quarter, plus the number of OBCs we have received, we are earning somewhere in the 25+% range. That's much better than all our other accounts combined!

  2. I think I read that Clp n Zip in Roatan was taken over by Carnival so must book thru them to zip line.

I just checked ClipNZip's website. It appears that the only way to make reservations is now through the shore excursion desk.

Bummer. We zipped with CNZ back in May. It was our first time zipping and we are now hooked. It only cost us $40 pp. The price through shore excursions is now $59.99.

  3. We want to go cave-tubing with this tour company. I have a lot of good this about them. The question is My boyfriend and I both want do the cave tubing but he want to add the zip lining to his. I do not want to zip line. Can he do that and still stay with me during the caves?

We went cave tubing with VIV back in May. It was fantastic!! The only thing I wish I knew was to bring a snack. We got really hungry after we were done, and still had an hour ride back to port so we bought a very expensive tube of Pringles for lunch at the caves.

    Can't answer about zipping. Sorry.

  4. Deck 9, Lido, aft.

Woo hoo! Have a good one. ;)

Ooh, the WHOLE aft Lido deck? And the pool?!?! Wonderful!

One of my favorite parts of Miracle was the aft deck. There were so many deck chairs open throughout the whole cruise because the aft area was huge.

  5. DON'T WASH YOUR HAIR IN THE SHOWER!!

It's so good to finally get a health warning that is useful!!!

IT INVOLVES THE SHAMPOO THAT RUNS DOWN YOUR BODY WHEN YOU SHOWER WITH IT. WARNING TO US ALL!!!

I don't know WHY I didn't figure this out sooner! I use shampoo in the shower! When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and Printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning: "FOR EXTRA BODY AND VOLUME." No wonder I have been gaining weight!

Well! I have gotten rid of that shampoo and I am going to start showering with Dawn dish soap instead. Its label reads: "DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE"

    PROBLEM SOLVED!! ;)

I'm so glad I didn't have coffee in my mouth when I read this.

Thanks for the Saturday morning laugh.

  6. I know Carnival supplies shampoo, but how decent is it?

I already planned on bringing conditioner, so that's a no brainer, but if the shampoo isn't bad then I can save a little space in my suitcase.

I have naturally curly hair, very curly. The shampoo in the shower makes my hair feel like a bird's nest. I bring my own travel-size shampoo and conditioner. My husband's hair likes the shampoo on board.

  7. Hi,

This will be the third cruise I've taken. The last two my husband and I went on. This next one will be with my daughters and their friend. I guess I really want to enjoy cruising with my daughters (just the girls)

I guess I'm feeling a little guilty. How many of you girls would or have taken a cruise without your spouse?

How many of you guys would mind your spouses taking one "solo" with friends or family?

    T. Umphess

My dad passed away about a year and a half ago. My mom has been having a difficult time, understandably. My WONDERFUL husband suggested I take her on a cruise to "get away from it all" for a few days. (DH and I have been on eight cruises together so far.) Mom and I sailed four days on Destiny back in October. Seeing my mom relax and laugh was one of the best gifts DH could have given us. The memories of this trip will last forever. I keep telling him he should take his widowed mother on a cruise, but he is not ready for that.

If your spouse supports your "just the girls" trip, then go and have a blast. Come back with lots of pictures and stories.

  8. Maybe its me since I've never had an Aft balcony but why cant you use the balcony just because its dark. I would enjoy sitting out there at night in the dark I would think. Sounds Peaceful to me. Can't you turn on the room lights to use for lighting and be able to sit on the balcony? I'm in the process of booking my next cruise on the Destiny and considering an Aft balcony so I'm curious about this.

Sailing Destiny today. :D We have an aft wrap ond deck 7. It's my first aft cabin, we have always booked regular balconies on the Lido Deck. I'll let you know how it is when we get back on Monday.

  9. Booked on first Aft Wrap, Valor 6452, Thanksgiving 2012. Will post pics when we return. First time in an aft cabin. Had other balconies next to the aft and had no problem with noises etc. so am very interested in the difference. Too bad it is still 5 weeks away:)

We just upgraded from an extended aft to an aft wrap on Destiny, sailing in only 11 days. Ready for the extra cost? $10.00! I don't want to like it too much because DH and I always book a regular balcony cabin on the Lido Deck. This upcoming cruise is a special getaway for Mom and me.

I'll let you know whether or not we like it.

  10. the aft cabins across the back are laid out the same as on the side.

the only difference is the two middle ones--- which will be a few inches smaller and no reported sofa.

the aft balconies are larger- I can not see a lounge chair out there as it will take up your space

empress deck 7 is the best deck-- see if you can chose another cabin for the sofa

    My PVP sent me this:

Cabin 7330 8M 185 sq ft room/60 sq ft balcony

    Beds: twin/king

View: window and aft-view extended balcony connecting balconies: 7333

Features: TV; telephone; 110 AC current; individual climate control; hair dryer; safe; 3-closets; shower; sofa and coffee table.

Cabin 7328 8M 185 sq ft room/60 sq ft balcony

    Beds: twin/king

View: window and aft-view extended balcony connecting balconies: 7326

Features: TV; telephone; 110 AC current; individual climate control; hair dryer; safe; 3-closets; shower; sofa and coffee table.

Both cabins seem to have a sofa.

What to do, what to do...

We had 2 loungers on our deck 7 aft extended on Destiny. It's well worth it.

Do you remember your cabin #?

  11. I was curious if someone who has sailed the Splendor in the last month or so could let me know if the sports bar is a smoking or non-smoking area. My Raiders are playing on Monday night football while we're sailing and I was just wondering if the "Our House" lounge was going to be smoke free during the game. Thanks to anyone who knows :)

The Sports Bar is one of the few smoking areas on the ship.

  12. We are sailing on the Splendor at the start of October and I am very interested in either kayaking or snorkeling at one of the ports (preferably Cabo - there is a resort we'd like to go to in PV). Has anyone done either of these activities? Any pointers?

We booked a snorkeling tour in Cabo with Pez Gato. We sailed on a catamaran over to Land's End then around to the Sea of Cortez. Drinks were flowing and music was playing. We snorkeled for a couple of hours and were greeted back on the boat with a delicious home-made lunch of sandwiches, freshly made guacamole, freshly made salsa, and tortilla chips. There were only 35 passengers on board. It was one of the best excursions I have taken.

  13. I have been using the (Barclay) Fun Points card and accumulated enough points for about $300 off my next cruise, which I plan to use. But now I want to use another type of reward card where I can earn points for something other than Carnival cruises (i.e., airfare or lodging for Vegas or an AI perhaps).

What is the most flexible card in terms of how many points you get per dollar charged AND for how you use the points? I don't want to lock myself into one airline's card or a particular hotel chain, if that makes sense. Interest rate is irrelevant, as I pay the balance monthly.

    Thanks!

We love our Capitol One Visa. We charge everything. (And I mean everything.) So far, we have taken two free cruises with the points accumulated.

  14. Not to ask the same question over and over again, but we have cruises a bunch of times out of San Diego and San Pedro, and once out of Galveston. At those ports, they have a regular cruise terminal...i.e. a big building where you go through security, check in at an agent booth, then sit around on benches or seats until the boarding zone is called. Having never sailed out of the Carnival facility in Long Beach, it seems like alot of people check in at the Queen Mary, then end up waiting in an outside area??? Do they not have a regular cruise terminal where you can check in and then not have to wait in the sun or rain?

We arrived at the port at 9:15. Right away we were given Zone 1 cards. Not very long after that, check-in began. It all took place outside. But the area is covered. There is also a port building which is a huge dome. We went in there to take the first picture of the cruise and to "boing" our cards in and embark. There were no chairs but there were large planters/benches outside for people to sit.

  15. Stargate, thanks for you're information. Was "Splendor" docked when your arrived at the pier? According to CCL's schedule, she's not due in until 9am. Do you have memory of an approximate boarding time. Do know want to wait outside too long. Were there chairs for the wait? Thanks again.

The ship was indeed at the port when we arrived. In fact, we had breakfast the hotel at 8:00'ish and she was already there.

There are no chairs, but there are large cement circular planters/benches for sitting. Not too many, though.

We did not get on until 1:00'ish. We were told it was a customs issue. Who really knows?

  16. Can you tell me anything about being able to to get good sitting area near any of pools and also want to know about the adult only area were they really no kids arounds?

We sat on the port (right) side, at the railing, close to the area where there were chairs and tables, and near the bar. There were a few "unoccupied" chairs there.

Though the sign did say adults only, at one point, a man and a little girl sat in a chair and I politely told them that this was an adult-only area. He harrumphed and left. There were quite a few teens sitting amongst the obnoxious group about which I wrote in a review. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1396262

  17. Can anyone give any insight on embarkation? We do not have Platinum status, but still like to get on board asap. We're staying at the Queen Mary Hotel the night before. Suggestions for a time to "walk" over? Thanks in advance.

Though we did not stay at the QM, we did get an early shuttle from our hotel to the port. We arrived at 9:15. Carnival agents began processing passengers soon after. We were given Zone 1 cards then waited in a short line outside the "dome" for check in. We received our Sail and Sign cards and waited to embark. Other than a very long wait to get on the ship, the check in process was the best we have encountered.

  18. Until reading CC, I never realized there was such an interest in cruise directors. I am sailing 1/8/11 on the Dream and have Butch - lots of people seem to like him, so that should be great.

I do have a question though, we were on the Fascination out of Jacksonville in feb 2009-I really liked that CD, but have no idea what his name was.

Is there a way of backtracking and finding out who that was?

Do you still have any of your Carnival Capers? The CD should be listed there.
