I used to think it stood for Maitre D Restaurant!!
-
I have been on the Dream 4 times and still get confused over doors and seating spaces. Service is the same cause waiters are allocated the same number of tables no matter where they are. Perhaps food may be hotter the nearer you are to the kitchen - just kidding>

I took along a can of that anti viral spray and used it everytime we left the cabin. I tried not to hold onto stair rails and never used the toilets apart from the one in our cabin. Still saw people picking up food with their hands and putting it back eg bread rolls, fruit.

We did Rome but our young guide on the bus to Rome was from Civitavecchia. He told us on the way back that when we were seeing the sights in Rome he visited his girlfriend, she cooked him a nice lunch then they had a "little sleep" oh aye!! Anyway....he told us he is proud of his town.

Its usually about an hour or a bit more after you collect your case and are physically on the ship. Theres a bus stop right outside the port which takes you to the centre of palma. We tend to take a taxi but don't get one within the port as they cost more. Walk a wee bit then take one. They are reasonable but ask the price before getting in.
I had to laugh. On our last cruise going in on the bus, we caught sight of the ship. There was that big block of flats The Norwegian Epic beside ours. Some passengers were wondering which ship was ours . "oh I hope its not that huge one" some said. "Naw I think its the wee one" someone else said. And so the discussion went on. It was really quite amusing.

we have had Sunwing Airlines which is a Canadian Company twice from Edinburgh to Palma/Palma Edibburgh. All the announcments are in English and French. We have found them to be clean and roomy planes - no complaints.

I am wondering it its the ports who state where a ship may dock. Maybe Thomsons had hoped to dock nearer the port but was told at the last minute they couldn't, so had to tender. Last year the Dream was docked at Portimao, Portugal and the tender took forever to reach the port. The Captain told us it wasn;t Thomsons fault they had to dock so far out. He said he would bring this matter up with Thomsons and recommend they do not use this port at a later date if this were to happen again.

We just stayed in Palamos as we had been to Barcelona before but I am sure we were told it was 1 and a half hours on the bus.

We have been in outside cabins with showers only. Our cabin this year was one with a bath and the 2 shower heads. I couldn't understand why 2? Plus I couldn't work them out and the first shower I had the 2 going at the same time with water going everywhere. I may have taken some photos in the past, I'm of to have a look to see if they are fixed.

The Majesty is certainly getting some great reviews including yours Tony.

I like the classical music on the Thomsons ships. But there wasn't a duo on the Dream in May. I'm hoping it returns. Thomsons cater for all tastes and I really missed them in the Argo lounge. Something just felt lacking in there.

I enjoyed reading your review Bodster. We had a super time on the Dream the week before you. Do you mind putting up your review in the review section under Thomson Dream. I want others to see it.

Someone has put up a review of the Dream giving it just one star. There are a few inaccuracies and I wish there was a way of replying or leaving comments. He states that you have to have a black suit and black tie to get into the captains dinner or the Orion restaurant . he says that the captain gives you tanning tickets to use the sun loungers. He went on 8 trips and complained that tour guides spoke pigeon Engish and one woman was in her 80s. Why should age be an issue. And he gives 2 stars for service. I'd love to put him right on certain issues.

Kruzseeka, yes only 2 shows plus 1 concerto, 1 dance, 2 guest acts and 1 presenting songs of whats to come that week. I used to look forward to the Broadway shows. They had a "deck fest" on the day the guest vocalist performed. Whether this is a one off, I don't know.

FOOD
Our 4th time on the Dream and we felt that the food in the Orion had improved. Portions especially the main course and the salads had increased and there seemed to be more varieites of vegetables served. The salad course used to have teeny little bits of this and that in them but this year they were more substantial. We asked that they be served at the same time as the main course, We went just between 6.30-7pm and service was very quick and efficient. Dishes always hot - in the past they have been luke warm. Breakfast we took in the Siren but sat outside. The omelettes served up at the station were excellent and of course made to order.
EXCURSIONS
We only did one paid excursion. A Thomson bus plus guide which took us to the centre then we did it all on our own for 7 hours. Then bus back.
ENTERTAINMENT
This was disappointing. The Showteam in the Broadway lounge were very good as usual but there were not the variety of shows. First night was highlights of what was to come, Sunday was the best with an Andrew Lloyd Webber theme, The Dance show was exactly the same as on our 3 other cruises, there was a night where they sung random songs plus the Michael Jackson theme on the final evening. This was one I did not enjoy. I am not a fan of MJ and the background film featuring him left me cold. The main gripe with the shows was the volume. Too loud.
A guest comedian performed one night then on another one they had a guest vocalist. We did not enjoy him and he continually mentioned that his CD could be purchased after the show.
The Peakles performed in the Medusa. Again too loud and not to our taste. Enchanted Duo was 2 young girls - one playing guitar and the other with the most quietest voice ever. When people were talking you could not hear them and they often did not get applause.
We used to enjoy going into the Argo lounge to listen to the classical violinist and pianist but there was no act like this on this cruise.
As usual it was the friendly and obliging staff who made the holiday. This Friday many of them are going on vacation. Our waiter has been on the Dream for the last 10 months working 7 days a week and still we expect them to smile and be happy! If I remember anything else I'll add it later.

Its not the cost thats the issue. But I had bought it as a present for my daughers boyfriend. I felt bad when handing out my presents and having to apologising for not having one for him. I have checked everywhere and can only think it was at the back of that shelf. I bought it on the day after sea at a 10% of day. In a white bag on a white shelf.

Joe, we certainly like to surprise the staff. I had facebooked Fernando a couple of weeks ago to say we would be on the Dream. To my surprise he was standing at the Orion door when we went for lunch the first day. His wife had told him he would be on. I don;t know if he had seen us coming in but it was a lovely surprise for us to be greeted and hugged. However we were told by some staff that they would be going on their holidays next Friday (23 may. ) So there may be a big change of staff. But aren;t they all lovely?

I am kicking myself. I bought a bottle of aftershave at one of the shops and must have left it behind. I think it may have been at the back of one of the shelves in the wardrobe. I contacted my travel agent and she did a couple of phone calls. But doubt I'll get it back. I had hoped that it would have been found, returned to the shop then got money credited back into my account. Have any of you ever left anything behind and what was the outcome?

We had cabin 5080 (outside plus). Honestly you couldn't feel a thing in bed and the only noise was a slight purring noise. One floor down and a couple of feet away from the Orion restaurant which was handy.

Just a quickie on here to say that our cruise was fantastic . Better than last Mays cruise on the Dream. Will report later on.

Some of the passengers on Thomson ships are creatures of habit and I am speaking for ourselves. We would have dinner , go to a show and see the same people sitting in the same seats at the same times. We usually ended the evening sitting in the Argo lounge chatting to the same groups of people. They were just like old friends by the end of the week.

yes the Dream has bikes too and offers trips.

As I said on FB the Celebration is getting great reviews these days. I want to go on her next year to the East Med.
Formal Night
in Marella Cruises (formerly Thomson)
Posted
All the waiters dress so smartly in the MDR both on formal night and other evenings and I think it is respectful that passengers also appear smartly dressed.
