We're about to leave on a European cruise in 6 days, i always second guess myself about how much to take as well! Keep in mind that you can use your credit card for most purchases while on shore, so that's what i plan to do. Then figure out how much is needed for excursions (some require cash which we'll get in euros), tips etc. You can always get more if you need it. I'm pretty sure the ATM's will dispense euros so you can get more as you go along. Have fun!

We'll be in Venice this Friday!!

I am doing research on Venice. Could you share what excursions you are doing. We will be there three nights after sailing on the Explorer.

  2. Wow, I haven't been on the boards for ages. I hit the jack pot tonight when I logged on.

I am not understanding the tip thing. I would appreciate it if you can elaborate. We have been to Europe before and tips were included in pricing in restaurants.

Would love to know what you did in the ports as we have the Explorer October 1st. We prefer the smaller ships as we don't need the bells and whistles with the newer ships.

$25 voucher given to a pinnacle member on ships with Coastal Kitchen to compensate for not being able to get a dinner reservation every night at coastal kitchen. On some ships/sailings, Pinnacles are limited to just two dinner reservations per cruise.

Thanks for your explanation. Is this a one time voucher for the entire cruise?

This tips topic always invite unnecessary arguments.

I am not trying to stir a the pot. I am not new to the free drinks, but am curious about the tip. Please forgive me if this has been a hot topic before. I haven't been on the boards for a good while. My take on someone that is serving me anything from free to costing me we tip. I tip the person that cuts my hair and the person that serves me at a restaurant. Sure wish my grooming clients all considered me in the service industry.

Please forgive me if I have stepped on any toes.

Interesting. I was just getting my shareholder proof to send when i wandered over here and saw your post. I was a shareholder at the time i booked (still am), but nothing is on our account, and our cruise is before yours. Guess i will still apply as normal. Happy cruising.  😊

I did the same and mine aren't there. Bummer i need to get it done this week.

We sailed out of Ravenna and had our hotel book a van for 6 of us.  We had it set up a week in advance.  Taxis are very scarce in Ravenna.

I understand the ship provides bus service from the train station.  The bus meets the train at the time of arrival from Venice.  I think the transfer town was Ferrara, so the Venice train arriving from Ferrara.  Royal should have info on this.

Thanks, I will contact Royal as I booked my cruise directly. I read that Taxis are very scarce in Ravenna. Our hotel is basically right on top of the train station. I guess I need to call Royal directly and ask directly since options are not available on the website. Thanks for your response.

The hard part is getting to Ravenna for the cruise.  If you’re there a day before - great.  Your cruise will also end in Ravenna and not Venice.  So, you’ll have a little commute to get to Venice.  We were on EOS in May.  It was a great cruise.  I hope you have a wonderful trip.

    Airbear232,

Thanks I hadn't thought of that. DUH. We always go to the port the day before because we don't want to miss the ship. I live in Texas and can easily drive to a port of call, but would rather be safe and not miss my cruise.

Have you had this problem and if so do you have a recommendation?

  8. Galveston Cruiser,

I have and read Taxis are hard to find on a Sunday and not wanting to carry luggage for 16 days on a bus. We are wanting to see the city and then head to the ship. I have already googled tons of options and visited Royal website. Thanks for your google tip.... I am horrible with a computer. If you can find something for me I will buy you a drink when we sail out of Galveston, which is our home port.

  9. I find tons of options to get me from the ship to numerous places, but nothing from Ravenna to the cruise port. We are not going home after the cruise, but rather enjoying Venice for several days. We are flying into Rome and enjoying four days there, traveling to Ravenna to spend a day seeing this amazing treasure. Now trying to get from Ravenna to the ship has been my biggest obstacle. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

My two cents, I hope Royal understands that people do things in reverse and they do have an opportunity to make money on transfers outside airports

  10. We are sailing on the Explorer of the Seas October 2023. I am having a very difficult time finding any ship transfers from Ravenna to the port. We have a trip planned to see Rome before, stay a night in Ravenna to see this wonderful place and sail on the Explorer and end in Venice. We have three days there and fly home. Any tips gang on how to get to the port. The ship doesn't sail until 7 PM so we want to make the most of our time in Ravenna and then get to the ship.

  11. Hi fellow cruisers,

I must say this is the hardest transfers I have ever had to book. If anyone can help simplify things I would appreciate any help.

We are flying to Rome and spending 4 nights we then need to transfer to Ravenna for an over night stay and board ship next day. We get off the ship and then travel to Venice three nights.

Any suggestions would be so helpful. I booked this cruise directly with the cruise line.

Whale watching in Alaska is not the best. They are feeding. In Cabo they are breaching and much better experience.

I just got off the Serenade August 14 sailing. We had wonderful views of whales and tails and juveniles on our cruise. Tons of whales breaching and tales. Had an independent tour with whales, seals and orcas. We do independent tours so not sure it this is the difference.

  13. I am sorry if I offend anyone. We are the clients that booked a product. My thoughts are that is the cruise that we booked should sail or we get a refund on our deposit regardless of type of booking. I can't control the Corona Virus, but I am healthy and can get on a ship that I have booked. I am hoping the cruise line understand they should sail or give us the non refundable deposit back. I prefer to use it to book a cruise in 2022. Waiting to see what their stance is. I rebooked today and lost $100 after I fought to keep any of my $200 credit.

    I dont use a travel agent ...... maybe I need to .

  14. Hope you are doing well. It seems like most of our cruises are going to be cancelled one by one. Only six more to see if they cancel. Celebrity in February to Thailand and Vietnam I will cancel. Hoping Australia to Hawaii and around islands and then up to Vancouver makes. Was bummed we couldn't make the TA seeing Greenland. Stay safe friend.
