I booked using the "GTY" rate on my upcoming sailing in April.
Has anyone booked using the Guarantee rate in the past? If so, how long before the cruise was your cabin assigned? (This was a last-minute cruise booking and the GTY rate was $900 cheaper than selecting the cabin rate.).
Thanks for the advice.
Sailor Services Update: The current promotion is not the same as the previous one where it's eligible for all cabins. The free Bar Tab is only eligible for Rockstar and Sea Terrace cabins.
In short: NO BONUS BAR TAB FOR YOU!
I just now booked a cruise for April but didn't get the promotional bar tab. I got my DBEs plus $100 bar tab but not the usual $300 bar tab I've gotten before.
Any advice?
Looks like several ships are heading to the port entrance now. We were doing well but a royal Caribbean just overtook us on the inside rail.
I've sailed into the port of Miami many many times and I know seeing the port entrance is not the same as “we are not close“. I’m so glad I m not catching a flight.
Yeah. The 17th.
The port of Miami is currently closed and not expected to open until 11:15 with several ships ahead of us in the que. The current advisory said our ETA at the terminal will be 1:15. I suspect that is optimistic.
To VVs credit, they haven’t started asking us to ‘vacate our cabins and wait quietly in the public spaces until they announce we can disembark’.
We just got the update on our arrival time and it’s now arriving Monday at 11:15 not 7:00.
The Notice advised us to contact our airlines asap if necessary. “YOUR SAFETY IS OUR NUMBER ONE CONCERN.”
My 2 steak experiences on this cruise on Scarlet are:
1. The Wake breakfast day one: Good to excellent.
2. The Wake breakfast day four: Un-edible.
I was unable to get a reservation for Extra Virgin.
This massive storm is effecting all of the ports in Florida and will be effecting us until about noon on Sunday. I’m on Scarlet now and we’ve been getting our butts kicked since we left on Wednesday.
No announcements regarding our arrival time on Sunday but I can’t imagine we will be on time. There are approximately 10 cruise ships fighting to dock on Sunday mornings.
I’m 100% sure Virgin has a robust sales and marketing department who are doing their pricing calculations to maximize sales/profits/occupancy. It just becomes more than I’m willing to pay going forward. It was really fun while it lasted. 😎
Virgin can and should charge whatever they can. (In higher fares with lower discounts).
My current cruise fare is a full 75% higher than my first cruise this past January which had 800 passengers. My current one is nearly full. This is good for Virgin and they deserve it with the product they offer. One could hope they don’t get greedy and start to quality to make even more profits.
With that said I’m not going to book any further cruises for a while. Maybe ever! IMHO Virgin offers full value for the money but they are no longer: “too good to be true”.

Burgers are grilled and placed in a warming drawer for fastest service. I request a burger be specially cooked without salt and spices which ensures i get a fresh one. That takes 10 - 15 minutes. In onboard Scarlet now enjoying the rain.
Freshly cooked, fastest service - pick one.
