  1. Just a heads up if you try and book one of the Ocean/River combo trips. For a week now we have been trying to book the RHINE & VIKING SHORES & FJORDS (Bergen-Basel). They gave me a quote for the combo but I found that if I booked the cruises separate there was a $500 per person savings. For days now Viking has said the pricing is suppose to be the same and they would adjust my quote. But they are now to my agents supervisor's supervisor and cant figure out how to do it. They keep extending the hold. I am losing interest in even booking this trip now.

  2. Yep I have learned my lesson on these reduced deposits.  I usually pay off cruises way ahead of the final payment date.  But I decided to cancel a cruise (Royal) no real reason just decided not to go I had made total payment for the cruise ahead of the final payment date and this cancellation was ahead of the final payment date.  I knew I would loose the $100 pp deposit I had put down but they also said that since the regular full deposit is 250 pp I would receive $300 in FCC not cash.  Oh well lesson learned.

If anyone is looking for a reasonable hotel we had the Nobelton booked before the Silhouette was cancelled.  Small boutique hotel which didn't seem to be playing the gouging game.  They were very highly rated on Trip Advisor and were $160 per night.  I was looking forward to trying a non chain hotel in FLL.

Great place rooms are tiny but the place is super clean.  And very reasonable.  $89 per night

Good question we are thinking of an inside for our first X cruise. but explain the different buffets based on rooms. Will we be limited on where to eat?

Remember most of the time you have to do Ocean View or higher to get the included perks.

  5. Several weird things going on with certain cruises. On the Infinity.   We have the April 16th 2020 booked and a few months ago they stopped taking bookings for the April 16th cruise.  When I called they said the bookings were closed for maintenance.

Then I called a couple weeks ago because in addition to the April 16th 2020 they added the April 6 2020 cruise bookings to the maintenance.  No one knows why they stopped taking bookings.  They are still taking bookings on the April 11th cruise.  And the ship is chartered for the April 20, 2020 sailing.

  6. I always tell people at Alaska Ports is to push thru the first couple of blocks of the new builds and get to real Alaska.  With that being said when you dock in ISP skip the zipline and all of that.  Catch the shuttle into Hoonah.  Go to https://www.mistybaylodge.com/?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=tripadvisor  we did a great private Bear Hunt thru them with just the two of us and a native Alaska in a van.  Hunt is that going out and locating the bears not just going to some lookout point and seeing them from a distance.

This is the regular (perhaps you’d say large) martini glasses. Covered under the premium package. I have seen them serve the smaller ones for classic but haven’t seen any bigger ones above the premium package.

Do they have Grey Goose VX at the martini bar?  And do they want an up charge?  Thanks for checking.

  8. 10 day cruise in January and 12 day cruise in February disembarked at Terminal 25.  No Facial Recognition either time.  Just flash of your passport to officer at the exit and on your way.  No lines.  As fast as you could get your luggage and walk to the exit was all the time it took.

  9. I spend several hours every night at the martini bar and unless someone asks for something else they always use grey goose vodka.  For a couple of years now I switched from martini to Vodka on the rocks and for the last few cruises I do ask for Grey Goose VX.  Up until this month it was always covered under the Premium Package but on this cruise they wanted $1 more up charge.  Well they never charged me but they did put the bottle in front of me with glasses of ice and a glass of olives and made me pour my own every night.  Not once in 12 nights did they scan my card or know how many drinks they just replaced the bottle when empty.

    Day 6 – Dominica (cont.)

At 9 in the morning, there was no one else interested in booking a future cruise, so we were able to sit down and speak with someone right away.  The cruise I was interested in was the 12-night holiday sailing on the Reflection in 2020, visiting the western Caribbean, Colombia and Central America.  I thought that was an interesting itinerary, and the dates worked out for us – departing much closer to Christmas on December 23 and returning on January 4.  That would be the first year we’d have both of the older girls in college (one would be a senior and the other would be a freshman), and I was pretty sure they’d both be done with finals and home by December 22, which is when we would fly down to Ft. Lauderdale, one day prior to the start of the cruise.  And it was a 12-night cruise again.  We were loving this longer cruise as we felt that, after having been on the ship already for six nights, if we had to pack up and leave after just one more night, that would be way too short of a sailing for us.

I asked what the perks were for booking onboard.  Since we wanted connecting concierge aft cabins again, we would get $200 in OBC per cabin for booking while on the ship, and also be able to put down just $100 deposit per person, which would be completely refundable until September 24, 2020.  The rate for the third or fourth guest in a cabin was also discounted a bit further.  The agent looked up to see what cabins were available and – what luck – the two connecting aft cabins smack dab in the middle of Deck 10 were available.  One of them has the widest balcony among all aft cabins (besides the Sky Suites, of course), so that will be great.  On the Silhouette, we had one balcony that was regulation-sized, while the other was slightly bigger.  By opening up the divider in between these two cabins made our entire balcony much more expansive and we had so much more room to move around.  With one of the balconies being even bigger on the Reflection, that meant our overall balcony space on that sailing will be even more than what we have on the Silhouette!  Sign us up!

We were also able to pick two perks for each cabin.  We selected the $300 OBC and classic drink package for each cabin.  The reservation was supposed to have been transferred automatically to my travel agent, but I still had to contact my TA when I got home.  I emailed her about it, and she sent me a new invoice a couple of days later, pretty much doubling the OBC and also paying gratuities for all five of us.  It really does pay to book onboard and then transfer to a TA, in my opinion.

So, as of today, here is my countdown for our next Celebrity cruise.  I didn’t know numbers could get that high.

Why not do the go best and get all 4 perks including the premium drink package?

  11. We ALWAYS do the go best.  While on the cruise people are discussing the cost of internet the question as to whether to upgrade to the premium package or to buy the package if it was not one of your perks.  Why not book go best at the time of booking at have it all included and not worry about it later.
