Whoa. I knew airlines were getting ridiculous with fees, but $200 for bags?? How many bags are you checking??

    Hello carry-on city!!

Only 1 bag each (total of 2).

I think that is a blanket statement Princess uses to make you aware that there could be additional bag charges.  Have used EZair a number of times for international travel that had that statement about a $200 baggage fee.  Since we only check one bag each and usually fly Delta,  have never had to pay  anything for checked baggage.

    Thank you!

  3. Booked my flights via EZ Air and the price was excellent.  I noticed that it says I have to pay $200 for bags. Does anyone know if I pay for my flight using my Delta AMEX card that this would waive that $200 fee as I get bags for free when using the card.  I would only want to use the card for the air portion not for the rest of my cruise payment.

I have been looking at excursions for the Military Tattoo on my British Isles trip for next August. Princess is currently offering seating in Premium and Front Corner.

Do they ever offer seats in the sides? I know the end is supposed to be the better place to sit but I like the idea of the sides better.

    Thanks.

You can go online and join Friends of the Tattoo for a small fee.  Once you join, you can virtually select your own seats.  We selected a dinner package with seating in section 9 which were great seats. I would not necessarily choose the dinner package but it's a great way to get the seats that you want before they are released to the general public.

  5. We did Koningsdam 14 day in August and we paid $429 for two of us for the Greenhouse Pass. I think you can call HA and book directly but they don't offer it online. We booked on embarkation day.

quote=MarKandi;56933399]We are on a 28day sailing on the Eurodam next March and I was wondering.

Can you book the Thermal Suite/Hydropool in advance?

    Can it be booked online?

We booked it once on the Zuiderdam on a TA and I thought I might splurge for it on this sailing. On the Zuiderdam, it got discounted while under sail so I took advantage. Didnt notice very many discounted services on our past 2-3 cruises.

Also I was thinking of booking the Distinctive Dining Package but we are 3 Star Mariners and get 25% discount on specialty dining so would it be more cost effective to wait until sailing to book these? I doubt we get a discount on a dining package as a guess.

  6. Use your bar code on your boarding pass prior to getting your ship card quote=philhar;56443345]Hi Nevadajen, thanks for your helpful reply. My daughter is 16 so I reckon she will resist suggested to go Teen Club, but thanks for mentioning it. I read somewhere that recently your cruise cards are outside your stateroom and until then you have a boarding card. I hope this means we can still get a drink (included in our package) before we get our cruise card! Not that I'm obsessed or anything but the packages aren't cheap!

  7. They get paid extremely well....union, longshoreman I believe. There are signs posted that they are salaried employees and tipping is not required although they will hustle you for a tip. Your judgment whether you want to tip or not.

When I fly and check my bag at the airline counter , no tip. If I use curb side, I tip.

When I pull up to a cruise ship and drop off my bag, I am expected to tip although I won’t see my bag for many hours after that. And I’ve never had a bag lost between drop off and the ship.

We do usually tip about $5 a bag but that just seems too much (although I have no idea if these guys are getting paid a decent wage).

What do you tip ? What’s fair ?

    Any insights welcome

  8. Only the Platinum guests (or those in the cabin of the Platinum guest or their minor children traveling in a separate cabin). If they allowed everyone traveling with the Platinum guests to receive the same benefit, it would defeat the purpose of the program and would dilute the reward that the Platinum guests have earned.

Hi, my wife and I are platinum, we were travelling with two other couples in separate cabins, I asked the Carnival rep if they could follow us to the Captain's Lounge and they said sure. They even embark with us. I would just ask it can't hurt. Have fun
  9. Questionnaire has now been eliminated.

    Hi all,

On previous cruises I have had to fill out a health questionnaire before boarding, I have usually been able to do this before getting to the port.

Do Carnival have anything like this and can you fill it out while sitting on the plane?

    D

  10. We also used TJ Tours last summer (2 day tour). Small group (9), great English speaking tour guide, skipped lines and saw eveything we wanted to see with no "herding".....

Please consider carefully and hopefully you'll book a private tour. I would highly recommend TJ Travel. We did a private 2 day tour with them that was just myself, husband, guide & driver...We were easily able not only to see the main sites but to add particular thing we wanted too even at the spur of the moment make changes. The tour they gave us was an amazing VIP tour experience. We felt very sorry for those large cruise ship bus herds wasting time as they waited in parking lots for straggler's to get back on the bus and then standing in long lines to get in any where...we on the other hand were whisked to the front of lines and never had to deal with parking lots.

It's more than likely a trip of a lifetime...don't cut this short...get the most out of your time there with a guide and driver.

Book this yourself online...you'll be amazed at the response. I emailed TJ Travel so many times with questions by the time we arrived I felt like our arrival and tour was being handled by a new best friend in St Petersburg.....Thanks Tatiana & Julia for an amazing visit to your city !!!

Even though our trip was a few years ago I still get a Xmas card from them every year...they never forget.

  11. I would check to be sure they are accepting AMEX Gift Cards. I know they take AMEX credit cards but I believe they do not take AMEX Gift Cards.

I have $2000 in American express gift cards, can they be applied to my sign and sail account when I get on the ship?
  12. We booked the first night on the Sunshine and took the free bottle of wine which was a Chilean red wine. My husband is not a wine drinker but he enjoyed it.

We are sailing the Breeze in a few weeks for our anniversary so we booked the Steakhouse on the first night as well.

I have seen a couple of posts saying the house wine leaves something to be desired.

    Can you expand on that?

Not wine experts by any means, so not very picky.

Also is it a single type of wine or do they have a choice of red/white/etc.?

  13. Priority Boarding is for the entire cabin as long as one person in the cabin is Diamond or Platinum or have booked a suite.

Hi there I posted yesterday asking if there are non platinum with me in my cabin if they would have priority boarding also, and some of you answered yes, thank you for that. I should of detailed the situation better which might change the answer. The two people that are non platinum have casino offer and will be booking with that offer, but I will be in the cabin and I am platinum will we still be able to all board as priority or not since it is being booked as a casino offer by someone who is not platinum. Thanks
  14. Remember, you get what you pay for!! The short cruises are filled with first time cruisers and kids. I agree, be careful of the short cruises during Spring Break!!

Hey guys - my husband and I want to hop on a short 3 night cruise for a quick getaway since we dont have much time to spare right now - either Mid- Late Feb or first weekend of March. We have mainly only done 5+ night cruises mainly 7 nights these last 2 times. So which of these is best and these are the choice we have that fit from where we can leave from:

    NCL-Sky

    RC-Majesty or Enchantment

    Carnival - Liberty or Victory

Now with Carnival we can get a suite for the same price as a basic room on the others.....

    Let me know!

  15. Disaster !!! We have arranged air with Celebrity Choice Air many times with no problems. We decided to try the new Carnival Fly2Fun program since we are on the Vista July 9. We are now 41 days from flying and Carnival still has not paid Delta so we are not ticketed. We are flying with our grand daughter and there are very few seats remaining where we can sit together. We booked the cruise back in Oct, the air in Nov, and paid our final payment back on April 1. Carnival lied to our travel agent and swore we were ticketed yesterday, but we were not. Looks like , if we ever do get ticketed, we will have to pay for premium seats to sit together. I would not recommend this program to anyone.

We used this program for the May 1st sailing. I wanted to upgrade my seats myself (we did not have seat assignments) and was told by Delta that it needed to be ticketed so I called CCL and they said they would do it for me just "one time" whatever that meant. But since I paid for everything in full very early they should have done that without question. I paid extra (myself directly to Delta) for the Premium Economy seats on Delta and we had no problem. However, we had British Air returning and I paid for seat assignments. The problem was that I couldn't check-in online on the ship as we couldn't get an internet connection. We got off the ship ASAP in Barcelona and went immediately to the airport and waited in the check-in line at the airport for at least 45 minutes. The seats I had paid for were given away and we were delegated to the last row, no recline seats. This was from Barcelona to London (am now in process of trying to get a refund from BA but it isn't looking good). We also had a few other issues as we had flight delays and it was not looking like we were going to make our ground transportation (2 hrs to Trieste from Venice). Called the Carnival guest solutions number to ask what time the last transfer would leave Venice and they had no idea!! I also asked for the ship's agent number in Venice in case we needed help when we arrived, only to be informed they didn't have a ship's agent in Venice. Bottom line for us is to never travel using same day flight arrival as same day ship departure.

  16. I read in one of the first Vista reviews that there IS a Tandoor Grill on the Vista! They noted that they hadn't seen it mentioned prior to the trip so they were surprised to see it!

I just returned from sailing on the VISTA and I don't remember seeing a Tandoor Grill. I think there is one on the Breeze but I certainly didn't see it on the Vista.

  17. Very poor quality ship. By far the worst Carnival experience combining with a amazing sites! Cheap, not low prices . From dirty walkways to the long lines at the breakfast buffet- Vista has a long way to go here. It is my 6 cruise on Carnival and by far the worst one. Need to get customer service back. I realized you are getting what you paying for, but it should not be as bad. Sorry , Carnival. Time to find another ways of vacationing.

Remember this was the "inaugural cruise"....testing the entire process, including the crew. I did not encounter one single problem and thought the cruise was excellent. A few things needed to be adjusted but that was expected. As the saying goes, "you can't please all of the people all of the time".....and that statement pertains to any ship or resort. Relax and enjoy!:)

  18. We had an inside cabin on deck 10...no noise and a great location. The only downside is that there is only one closet for hanging clothes (other ships if I remember correctly have two closets). You still have the one area with shelves and drawers. One other thing that I didn't know is that you have to keep a card in the light switch slot in order to charge your phone. I couldn't understand why my phone didn't charge overnight and was later told this was the reason. The ship is beautiful and we didn't have any problems at all....you will love it!!
