  1. Since I fly into port the day before the first thing I do when I step on the ship is let out the breath I've been holding for the past 24-72 hours. A lot can happen between the time I board that plane, get to the hotel and step on the ship, that I can't relax until I hear the 'ding' of the set sail pass telling me I've made it.

Then I get a Bellini Sunset and walk around the ship.

After that, I just go with the flow:)

  2. Yep, I've started this too as I'm cruising on RCL in April as well! I've been upping my gym classes and PT sessions. So far I've lost centimetres but no weight.

    Winky,

I'm also sailing on RC in April.. I'll be on the April 11th Tampa sailing on Brilliance of Seas. When are you going?... I can always use a workout buddy in the gym while on board.

  3. It's a shame RCCL doesn't put a little more effort into solos. Even just fifteen minutes of a cruise director gathering/identifying solos at the meetings would help. When I went to the solo gathering on RCCL, I couldn't tell the difference between the afternoon drinkers and the solos, so I waited a half hour and left.

I agree with you on that. I've been on RC in the past and it would be a little nicer if we could identify the solo's when we first set sail.

  4. Hi Diana,

I use an online website to do my booking. It's great because it has a ton of info about all the cruise lines, their ships, what to wear etc.

You have to decide which line is best for you. Everyone is different and what you may find enjoyable someone else may not enjoy at all.

I'd say definitely do a lot of investigating, decide what's important to you, and when you've made your choice, enjoy the days leading up to your sail away.

The only thing I will advise is thinking about a shorter cruise 3-5/3-6 days as opposed to and 8,9 or even 10 day trip. Just in case you find cruising solo isn't for you.

If you would like the name of the online travel site I use feel free to message/email me.

    Good luck and happy cruising

    Patty

  5. Glad you are over your anxiety about going solo.

I've done two solo trips already and loved them both. Just joined the roll call for another upcoming one in April, introduced myself, said I was (happily) traveling solo, and the next time I logged in I had several offers from people to join them for dinner the night before the cruise leaves, and two different excursions in Cozumel.

I've found people are more than willing to extend and invitation for a drink or dinner if you are solo, usually its that 'more the merrier' mentality. :D

Coming from someone a little bit more on the shy side, just put yourself out there and you will be pleasantly surprised what happens.

    Happy sails

  6. And then have a no show of the second person on sailing date? They cannot charge you more than the double amount which you have already paid can they?

What do I not understand here?

If you were to book as a two person trip wouldn't you have to provide all the other individuals information as well? I don't think too many of my friends would be happy with me using their information when they wouldn't actually be going..:p

  7. I think sometimes you have to call to get the correct solo rate if the deal is for less than the 200%

I'm a solo traveler as well and usually calling won't make a difference. If you want to go you pay double.. stinks but that's the way it is..for the most part

  8. Hi all my seasoned solo cruisers,

Thinking about booking a cruise in August on Independence of Seas. Was wondering if any of you out there have ever sailed on her. What was your experience as a solo, did you enjoy it, would you recommend it to others solo's?

    Any thoughts/info greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Patty

  9. I booked my first solo cruise for April. I am so glad I found this forum. I was very nervous but after reading these posts I know I am going to have a great time.

Have a great time...let us know how it went.

(I just noticed you are located in Beverly Ma.. I'm your neighbor. I live in Tewksbury Ma.. talk about a small world:)

  10. When your cruise is coming to an end, is there anything special you do? Do you go straight to the airport? Do you have breakfast? Do you carry down your own luggage? Take a taxi? Do you try to stick around as long as you can? I have done so many cruises and I feel like every time I have done something different!

I get up super early to watch the ship pull into port. Then quickly shower & breakfast on the pool deck. Take one last look around, snapping my final pics, then carry my bags off. I prefer to stay an extra day after my trip so I usually work my way back to my hotel and spend the day relaxing and remembering the high points.

  11. Hi all, we have an Alaska trip planned this spring and have booked a mini suite to stay in. Since this is the first time we are sailing Princess-we usually sail on NCL -could someone tell me what perks come from staying in this type of room? I'm assuming we'll have someone to make reservations for dinner, excursions and shows, etc. But I can't seem to find anything written stating what else we might be entitled to.

Thanks in advance for your help

  12. Hello all,

I'm looking at a cruise out of Port of Baltimore. I've found a lot of hotels in the Linthicum, Elkridge, and Hanover areas offering free shuttles to and from BWI airport which is great. A few have shuttle packages from hotel to pier but they seem a bit pricey to me since I won't be leaving a vehicle there for the duration of the trip. It looks like the hotels are about 10-20 minutes away from the pier according to Google maps, and I was thinking of just paying for a taxi there the morning of the cruise instead of using the shuttle.

Has anyone taken a taxi from their hotel, how much was it? Are the fares a flat rate or does the meter run?

    Any info appreciated

    Thanks

  13. Thanks so much for the info.

Princess Cruise Line does have transfers from Anchorage to the pier for $55.00 per person.

I also found several different shuttle companies as well:

    ********************

The Magic Bus from the Museum of History

I also found two websites to check out Alaskatravel.com and Alaskarailroad.com

Hopefully with all that I can figure something out.

In Vancouver I'm reading there are 2 diff cruise ports. The Canada Place Terminal which is in the middle of everything and only about 9 miles from the airport which would be great for me as far as flying right home after the trip.

The other pier: Ballantyne Pier-it says its best to take a cab.

Does anyone know which pier Princess Cruise docks in?

    Thanks

    Off to do more searching.
