  1. Let's not lose sight of the original subject in this thread. That being the callous disregard for others by a woman who chose to smoke in a public venue where smoking is prohibited and then showed a total lack of societal norms by grinding the butt out on the floor. Rather than being concerned with whether someone is laid back, lets focus on returning to a society where others are considered, not just oneself.

Well said. Let’s also focus on the prospect that “consideration of others” is a two way street.

  2. I think it is not a done deal or fake news as else there would be WAY more sources but that little thing...also some of the information seems not that credible...

I wouldn’t say fake news......yet. This French News site has been fairly reliable and accurate with “breaking news” in the past. They pegged Oasis 5 and Icon reports before it was officially announced.

But I agree with your suspicion, RCCL frequently uses major events for new ship build announcements. Not so this time with SoS.

  3. Cruise Critic posted a couple of video"s that show "Hooked" and the new sports bar and also the new Mexican Rest. ! They are filmed like the pro's they are!

If you go to the RCI press center page (Lloyd’s link above) and click on videos, there are various b-roll videos for media, including CC, to use. Here you’ll find videos of many of the SoS venues.

    Cheers

  4. I'm going to assume playmakers is going to be an a la carte restaurant with no cover. If there's a big game going on during a sailing(I.e. the NFL playoffs for my sailing next January) it would be insane charging guest who just want to have a beer while watching Aaron Rodgers pick apart a team's secondary. I figure things like an order of wings or nachos will carry a charge.

My understanding is exactly what you said. Drinks will be covered by whatever drink package the passenger has. Food items will be pay as you go.

  5. It's called decency.

Ship or no ship, If I was in an enclosed public space and observed someone blowing smoke, especially if it were in the vicinity of my child or pregnant wife, and then stomp out the butt on the ground, you better believe I'm going to say something.

It’s one thing to say, “excuse me ma’am, but you do realize smoking is not allowed indoors.”

It’s another to “confront” and escalate the situation.

  6. I would have confronted her. No excuse for smoking in a no smoking area and then putting butts on the floor. OP should have told employee he/she witnessed the woman smoking. If she was smoking there she most likely was smoking in her cabin too. Not fair to next cruiser to occupy that cabin especially if they have lung/allergy issues. Agree she should have been put off ship and charged cleaning fees too.

I agree with reporting it to the crew as a witness, and maybe even using a cell phone to video the transgression. But I don’t believe guests are in the position, to enforce ship’s rules on behalf of the Captain.

  7. I can't hardly wait one more mo nth before she sails. I find myself making a growing list of very important things that I know we can really know until her voyages are underway. Does anyone else have unanswered questions? What are they? Are there actual answers to some of my questions, and not just guesses?

Will there really be two seater go-carts?

    Will they really go 35mph?

Will Cagneys have Tomahawks or bigger steaks?

Will OB really have local seafood?

Will there be a raw bar?

Will DBH have real or even local craft beer, not just AB-inbev sellout breweries, grr?

Will there be bar games at The Local?

Will Maltings have a decent Bourbon list?

Will the barmen's drinks be worth a damn?

Will the Humidor have a good vibe, or will it be forced?

Will the Skyline bar have a Vegas VP bar feel?

How bad could the Video Poker really be at the bar?

Will I be able to shower in the locker rooms after a workout?

Will any of the waterslides be doable on our AK itinerary?

Will the Craps table be a $5 table?

What tables games will there be?

Will there be a $5 BlackJack table?

    Will it be 3:2?

    Real poker table or Electronic?

Will some of the unique rooms be the same as on Escape (x700's)?

Will They have parka's to hand out while close to glaciers?

Where will the hotspots on the ship be?

That sums it up for know.

    No,no,yes,no,yes,no,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,bad,yes,if you’re brave,no,no,yes,no,no,sauna,

  8. It depends on the length of your stay and where you’re going. If it is less than a week and/or multiple countries, you’re probably better off using AT&T’s plan. I’ve used it the last several trips and it’s just easy. Works great through out the Med and works on 24 hour periods.

If you’re going to be in one spot for an extended stay, 2 weeks or more in Spain for example, then you are better off getting a local SIM card. NOTE YOUR PHONE MUST BE UNLOCKED. ALSO note there are new roaming rules for the EU so you likely will be able to use the same SIM in different countries.

Another option I used in the past was Knowroaming. Check it out. It’s worth considering.

But for me I just now use AT&T International Day Pass works great, especially for work.

    Cheers

  9. Agree with Luv, it will depend on the ship, the itinerary and also whether or not it is a sea day. With that said, the Ocean View cafe, buffet area, usually is my place of choice to get an adult beverage (Blood Mary) at that time of the morning. The main pool bar will open usually around 0800 or 0830. Nothing wrong with gettin a beverage in the buffet and taking it outside to enjoy the morning.

  10. Anytime I could see the ocean I was fine but when I walked around the boardwalk it hit me big time! I am so thankful we switched from a boardwalk balcony to an ocean view last minute. I felt like at every turn there was a giant wall of glass looking down over a floor 17 stories below. It was nuts!

I guess there are different degrees of fear of heights. I used to have a very bad case of it. But cruises have helped me overcome the fear to some extent. Oasis isn’t alone in being big. Most larger 3000+ passenger cruise ships are at least 14 stories high. That’s big no matter what the ship. With the high railings and protective glass, I feel at easy going up and peering down. Every once in a while when we are in a port, I get bothered, but those are fewer and farther between. My experience is similar to yours when we are at sea I can sit or stand near any railing at the very top of the ship and gaze forever at the sea going by.

Glad you had a great cruise.
