  1. This guy was playing beautiful music on whatever that is. Hoping someone knows. 20230526_072040.mp4
  2. I am suddenly reminded by my daughter that the ferrets are depressed with me gone...
  3. Carcassonne has two parts, the old city and the new city. The old city, 'Cite Carcassonne" is located within the walls. The rest of these pics are all from the new city, where most residents live and where that fancy canal network that connects Mediterranean Sea to Atlantic Ocean is a big deal...
  4. I almost bought a Carcassonne tshirt but they were Disney prices. But hey, at least this castle is real!
  5. Speaking of Monty Python's Holy Grail, these ramparts remind me of Sir Galahad, Brave Sir Robin and the rest asking the French to join them in their quest for the Holy Grail, to which the French reply with insults instead of archers. My favorite was "MAY YOUR ARMPITS BE INFESTED BY THE FLEAS OF A THOUSAND CAMELS!"
  6. The walled city still has 300 residents, two hotels, two schools and a ton of tourist stuff, including lousy serrano ham sammiches. Note the souvenir shop with the Knight who says NI!
  7. Carcassonne is the largest walled medieval city in Europe.
  8. A bunch of pics from just walking around the exterior, which took an hour and 20 minutes.
  9. King Louie IV and Phillip III of the Kingdom of France built the outer walls in the 1200s and it withstood every attack. Legend says Charlemagne gave up and left after a lengthy assault. The inner walls were built by the Romans in the 300s. This is the best pic I could manage showing both walls...
  10. Carcassonne was an early walled city built by the Romans in the 300s, not too long before the fall of Rome. Notice it's actually a walled city inside a walled city. There's an inner wall and exterior wall... (this aerial view from a drone is the only way to appreciate that there are two walls, and was borrowed from the internet, since Cite Carcassonne is the highest thing around, I couldn't use my own pic).
  11. I asked if it was one of those hairless Egyptian cats and her reply surprised me..."I ordered her from Washington DC "
  12. Dinner at Chez Seraphine was great, moules and cod with egg and garlic aioli. The cat is her actual cat.
  13. Although I am sad about all the stress, puddy tat worries and tummy troubles, that was fun to read. Except now I'm feeling more guilty about my dogs and Faith's ferrets. She sent me pics of the blueheeler and the ferret that always climbs on my lap to take a nap. Never seen either one so sad. Gotta remember to give them extra extra love upon return.
