For refunds, I believe they are required by law to refund you in full if THEY cancel a cruise for whatever reason. However, if YOU cancel for any reason you would be subject to whatever rules are in place at that time.

If HAL only cancels your booking at the dock (such as for a positive test), but does not cancel the whole cruise, you can only get FCC.

to switch us to an Observation Deck verandah, which I had forgotten existed on the NA. (Looking at too many deckplans!) They are also classified "Spa" which means nothing to us, but the convenience of the Crows Nest and to have our own outside space is a plus with the unknowns of this year. And the difference in dollars is do-able.

If the verandah is on deck 11, the balcony is not normal size, but a bit narrow (but larger than a french balcony). Better than an inside, though!

Oh, okay. I'm thinking that your pier test was specifically a Hawaii requirement, and not universal for all itineraries. As an example, for our Mexico cruise in April out of San Diego, I don't think we will be tested again at the pier in San Diego. The 2-day prior to sailing test is the only test requirement as far as I know, but I suppose I could be surprised.

As far as I know, Hawaii destinations are the only ones requiring a pier test, although the Panama Canal cruises have been testing on board for the canal passage.

What do you mean by 'you didn't pass the boarding test'?

That would be the COVID test at the pier in San Diego to board the cruise to Hawaii. As far as I know, that was the first time they  required the pier test after you had already passed the 48hr test.

when we’re you supposed to sail and when should you have disembarked?  Ours didn’t change until after our disembarkation day plus about a week.   We had to cancel for medical reasons.

The disembarkation date was 2/2/2022. The next cruise with a different ship is not until 9/11/2022. I guess I will know about a change when the Dutch Cafe disappears from my app. It is not on my next ship.

Thanks @PSR for sharing your experience. We've been waiting for FCCs and your post "nudged" me to contact my TA about them. She's contacting HAL tomorrow.

Can I ask please if the FCCs you just received have an expiry date of 12/31/2022?

No, ours have an expiration date of 2/22/23, a year after they were granted, not a year after our cruise was cancelled by HAL (1/16/22) or that cruise ended (2/2/22). The first cancellation statement we got by email (around 1/23/22 or so) said the FCC should arrive in two weeks, but not sure how they calculate the 2 weeks. We got the cancellation "cruise penalty" statement on 2/4/22, showing what part of our final payment would not be refunded in cash. I allowed 14 days plus after that statement to call, since I figured that would be time enough for them to grant our FCC. Seems they may be waiting until someone calls to grant the credits. Hope your TA is successful!

Something else I just noticed this morning.  On the Dining section if you click on "View More" and scroll down to "Coffee and Treats", clicking on it kicks you out of the app entirely.  LOL

I just tried it and it just went to places on the Koningsdam-type ships such as Dutch Cafe, etc. That was the ship I was supposed to go on but didn't pass the boarding test. Anyway, my next ship is the New Amsterdam in September, and I am wondering when my menus and other references will change from the Koningsdam's to the New A.; the former has more dining locations, showrooms, etc. than the latter. Seeing them there kind of reminds me of what I missed....😢

  8. We are booked in a Deluxe Ocean View on Regatta. Do the closets have an ample supply of clothes hangers? When I look at some of the cabin videos I only see a few (3-4) hangers in the closet. I've been on some other cruise lines where they have so many hangers we have to remove some to use the closet! Can the room steward bring more if the supply is sparse? Thanks for any info.

Please let us know when it gets resolved.

Actually, later yesterday about 6pm, on a hunch I checked my HAL account and the FCC was already there! So was my husband's in his account. It didn't take 48 hours as stated in the email the advisor sent me to confirm the amounts. 😊

  10. I found a phone number for Guest Services on HAL's web site and gave them a call this morning. After waiting 45 minutes on hold, I finally got to talk to an advisor who looked into the problem. For some reason, our booking had been overlooked (she did not know why), but she managed to get the ball rolling so we should get our FCC applied to our accounts within 48 hours. We'll see....

My TA described her recent NCL procedure.  She was tested, antigen, at the pier.  If anyone tested positive they were then given a PCR test.  She said the double test, both costs borne by NCL, seemed to prevent anyone from being needlessly left ashore.

There are at least 12 of us who wished HAL would of had that procedure in San Diego to Hawaii in January....😞

    About two weeks.

    Mine took about a week.

Thank you both. Was this time frame from the end of the scheduled cruise? Our cruise was was cancelled at the pier on 1/16/22 due to test results, but the actual cruise itself did not end until 2/2/22. So far we have gotten all the refundable amounts back to our credit cards, but no FCC yet. Don't know who to contact; Guest Services has not replied to either of my emails written in January.😒

  13. jakers...If you still have energy after your morning/lunch activities, I would return to Canada Place and walk the seawall toward Stanley Park. You can determine how much time you have left (2hrs?) and walk 1/2 the way in time, then walk back. We haven't been there in several years, but it is a pleasant walk and the distance can be adjusted to the time/energy you have left. Then you will back to your ship. Oh, how I miss Vancouver...we used to go once a year and haven't been there since August 2019.

  14. I am wondering if anyone has received their FCC after being denied boarding due to a positive COVID test. I thought I had read somewhere in the HAL info that I received that it would be 2 weeks. I can't find that statement again, so maybe I just "dreamed" it up. Anyway, I did receive the statement from HAL that my Cancellation Penalty was most of my fare, less taxes and port charges. I HAVE received all my shorex and cabin purchases back to my CCs. I have never received FCC in the past and would like to find out how long it takes so I can apply it to our August HAL cruise. Thanks for any information.

When we cancelled the same cruise due to a death in the family, we received the dining and shore ex refunds quickly. But the Club Orange payment was added to our cruise fare  and not treated in the same way as shore ex etc. The CO payment we made by credit card (the day we called HAL to add it) was added to the deposit. We filed a claim for that with the air, tax, etc., payments (and are waiting for reinstatement of the FCC used from our cancelled 2020 Hawaii cruise).

Hmmm...I was hoping the CO fee would be returned to a credit card, not subject to the fare rules. They should mention that when you book the CO--that it is not refundable separately from the fare. We are supposed to get FCC for the fare (which we are challenging). When you mention "filing a claim" above, do you mean using the form that HAL sends to get them to cover things not covered by your insurance?

  16. I'm pretty sure we won't run out of food on a cruise!! I like details about breakfast because on a cruise, I like to have a big breakfast, then something light around 2-3pm, then a big dinner with dessert! We haven't had big lunches since we cruised on the old Star Princess in the 1990's...we had a full bottle of wine for lunch then, too! Those were the "good old days"!😲

A quick question for all the experienced HAL cruisers..

We've cruised HAL many times, but just booked our first HAL cruise tour in May to Alaska, and I'm curious if charges in the lodges or land excursions (if any) are a charged to the onboard account or if the tour charges are a separate folio, and will have a different chargeable final tour statement apart from the onboard folio or are just paid as consumed ?

We just used our credit card at the hotels to purchase meals and other items such as snacks and coffees. We didn't try to charge anything to the hotel room, so cannot answer that part of your question, sorry. We never got a itemized statement from the 2 hotels we stayed at in Anchorage and Denali.

I just enjoyed going up to Waves very early to get an omelette, Muselix with fresh fruit, yogurt, and my daily Sun Salutation smoothie with black coffee.

So, Waves does have some cooked items for breakfast? I am unable to find a menu for that particular dining spot for breakfast online, so I just assumed they just had cold food in the AM.

  19. Not sure about the spa/internet refunds, but shorex bookings are returned very quickly. In fact, when people are going to cancel a cruise, usually they cancel the shorex first and you get it back even faster (2-3 days, usually). HAL cancelled our Jan. 17th cruise due to a (false, it turns out) positive pier test. I got the shorex back to my CC in about 3 days. Still waiting for dining rez and Club Orange rez refunds, though.
