....Our cabin is very adequate while it is 'tight.' We use the shelf by the window for storage of electronics, guidebooks, etc. But if DW is seated at the counter no one could get by. The safe is very large. We are not using the refrigerator so for us that is wasted space. The bathroom is tight but it works and our stateroom attendant, Chino, keeps it spotless.....

You call it 'tight', I like to think of it as 'cozy'. 😄

  2. PhD-iva,  thanks for the 'live' update.  So many of us are living vicariously these days. Your comment about the River Queen looking a bit old reminded me we were booked on her last scheduled trip in 2020.  She was then supposed to go for a complete update and transform into the newest S.S. in the Uniworld fleet.  It will be a while before that is going to happen,  I guess.

    Clue #3

Going fast and through the past

you'll live the high life until the last

We were told the ship is the River Queen.  We are boarding in Basel, Switzerland and 10 days later we disembark in Frankfurt.

Well, I guess you are going to be pampered on the Rhine and Mosel.  Maybe spend some time in a castle or two?

The River Queen is my favourite ship, not as ornate as the SS ships in the Uniworld  fleet.  The cabins are small, but well laid out.

Looking forward to your report when you get back. Have a blast!

. Does that mean we can’t bring a carryon, purse and checked bag? That will be a problem. When did scenic tell you only one bag?  I have to completely rethink my packing if that’s the case. I think I’ll contact my TA and ask her to clarify

Once you unpack your suitcase it stores under the bed. If your carry on fits in the empty suitcase then there is nothing to worry about.

Greetings from onboard Scenic Opal. After all the hassle and worry we boarded the ship in Basel on Monday and it’s been incredible first few days of two week trip.
There seem to be quite a few people who were booked form Ams to Basel and then joined our cruise once theirs was cancelled. Ship is about 85% full.

Food is amazing, staff can’t do enough for us and the weather has been great! Today was the first time we sailed during the day. Thanks to the warm and sunny day we even spent time in the vitality pool.
Now I understand why so many of you keep going on cruises…I feel very spoiled.

Looking forward to reading about your cruise.  There are so many of us living vicariously.

  6. I can't help but share a memory of one morning back in the '70s  when Canada was starting to go metric.  The local radio station was educating its listeners on metric time.  The day will be divided into 10 units. ( I can't remember what they were called) then those units were divided into 100 centi- unit name and further into mili- unit name.  All morning the announcer would say what time it was in metric time.  Listeners were calling in to the radio station in a panic.  They were trying to calculate  how to tell time. What is going to happen to their existing watches and clocks, etc.

Today is the eve of the anniversary of that day.  It was the best  most thought out April fool's joke I have ever heard .

  7. You are better off ordering bulbs for shipment in the fall. As CPT Trips mentioned the bulbs you purchase now, in April are last year's bulbs and they will just sit at your house until you plant them in the fall.  The ones you order now for shipping  are still in the ground now and will be harvested later in time for fall planting.

I was very excited when I ordered bulbs at Keukenhof and spent a lot of €s.  Thought they were something special.  Found the same varieties at my local nursery for less than half.   Lesson learned.

  8. We have sailed with Uniworld on the Legendary Rhine and Moselle twice!  We were booked on their Rhine cruise that included Baden Baden and the Moselle  in 2020, but we all know what happened .  Visiting the Moselle  every few years is such a treat.

  9. Gopherpharm,

how exciting!  It sounds like you are ready to go with the flow and an open mind.   Always have some euro coins for public toilets when on walking tours..

Don't expect glitzie entertainment in the evening.

There is a menu available at breakfast in case the buffet is not enough.😉

The decor on Uniworld ships may not be your style,  but just pretend you are staying with an eccentric relative.

You can have your bed made up with a duvet or with sheets and blankets.

Start saving for your next river cruise.  We were hooked after the second day. Hope you will be too.
