  1. All Balcony rooms windows are ceiling down to about knee high windows , They don't go to the floor

The door going out to the balcony is all glass

I mean the rooms that are ocean view;not the balcony rooms. We are sailing on the Sunshine, and we tried to get one, and they were already booked. They have huge windows that go from the floor to the ceiling. They are not the normal ocean view windows.

  2. You used to be able to get a coupon for a free (tiny) margarita at Margaritaville if you found the salt shaker on their website and clicked on it. Anyone know if they still have a free drink coupon and where to find it? I did sign up for their newsletter in case they do any offers that way.

I went on the website and looked around, but I couldn't find one. If you find one, or get a decent e-mail discount, let us know. Thanks.

  3. I like the "old school' envelope tipping process; however, I understand the reasoning for automatic gratuities. My husband and I, are taking my young nieces on an 8 day cruise in a few weeks. It will cost us a total of $384.00 in tips alone. I doubt I will tip any additional money this go around. Although, this will probably not be the case. I have "guilty tipping syndrome." Normally, I over tip. Maybe, I am thinking that because I have two young children sailing, I will be paying the same tip amount, as the adult passengers pay. I still think $404.00 for eight days is still pricey. I am adding upwards, because there will be tipping for the baggage handlers.

  4. Not a person in line; in fact there were about 5 or so carnival people just waiting for someone to walk up and help them. Took our picture and just as she handed us our cards, they announced boarding for us. We walked on, headed to guest service to reserve our spot for Dr. Suess Breakfast and up to our room to drop off our stuff and then to the pool all before noon. Definitely worth the $50!

We had the pool to ourselves for about 30 minutes and then a few others joined us, but never was really crowded till day 7 (2nd sea day of 3). Then I headed to to mongolian wok as I knew it would it more crowded as the cruise went on (and it did). Husband and daughter went to Guys. Then more swimming, muster drill and setting sail. We hung out in our room for a little bit and then went to the family friendly comedy show.

Is there a fee for the Mongolian Wok? Your review is very helpful! Thanks.

What age group is the Dr. Suess geared towards? What is the cost? Thanks so much.

  6. We sailed on the Sunshine in July. The ship was full and they said there were about 1000 kids on board. We had the best time. To me, it never felt like that many kids were on board. The ship never felt crowded to me except one morning at breakfast when the entire ship was trying to get off for an early stop at port. The slides were awesome! My kids had a great time on them. It was the most amazing vacation I've been on!! I'd sail on her again in a minute!

We are bringing our nieces (9 and 11). Can you tell me something the girls, or DH and I can become involved with, so we can win them a ship on a stick? They would love to have one. Thanks.

  7. Are we talking about the user reviews here on cruisecritic? When I checked Sunshine reviews, I did not see 9 of 10 were "extremely negative". 4 of the 5 most recent reviews are 5 or 5+ stars. The only 1-star review complained ship layout and no free drink.

There is another review that some young people in their party missed the ship. Carnivall was nice enough letting them board on a different ship instead of letting them fly back US by themselves. But they still gave Carnival a 1-star.[/quote

Sorry-I didn't count the bad reviews. I was just making point. Also, I have been reading the reviews for several months. I am not going to let my fear of the reviews keep me of having a good time.

  8. We are paying 24.50 for a one way rental from Budget for a compact to cape canaveral this friday from orlando airport. That is the total cost, no drop off charge.

Everything we priced out; included, drop off fee. Also, there are a lot of taxes, fees, etc. We are paying $85.00 to go to the port, and around $70 for the return. We are traveling 10/4. Gosh...I wish I could find something this cheap!

  9. We are not big drinkers, but we feel in love with the Shake Spot on deck 5. We had several "adult" milkshakes which were very good!

Activities: Our days and most evenings consisted of a whole bunch of "nothingness" every couple of cruises we book at the last minute for the purpose of going on vacation to just relax! I was diagnosed with RA several years ago, I don't experience a lot of joint pain, however, fatigue is a whole other story. Mr. J and I have found cruising to be one of the easiest vacations ever, someone else is driving, cooking and cleaning! So the J's take this as our opportunity to do what we love the most, being with each other, sleep, watching movies, sleep, eating, sleep, going to comedy shows, sleep, listening to karaoke, sleep, and avoiding the sun, (cause it just makes us sleepy) Out of the 8 movies I had on my laptop, we were able to watch 7 of them, sometimes they would get interrupted by Jamie the cruise director, rambling on about some cruise activities that were taking place, who knew! Lol. We went to 3 comedy shows and they were all funny, and yes the Limelight Lounge is the wrecked train that everyone says it is. They need to have someone controlling the line to get into the show, and better yet, have it in a bigger venue. Superstar Live which is karaoke with a live band was held one time only, and was very entertaining.

Areas of the ship: We enjoyed the Serenity deck at least 3 mornings, it was nice and quiet until that pesky sun started to come out, that's also when most of the people would show up. I don't know how it was later in the day because that's when we would be hiding out in our cabin! Can you be allergic to the sun, maybe I am, I'm going to ask my Dr., lol. We didn't use the pools or the waterslide, it was too hot, so no comment on those. Sometimes we did enjoy some people watching on deck 3, and twice we went to the library to read our books and magazines, one of the times however, Mr. J woke me up and said my snoring was bothering the 2 other people in there.....nobody in there proved to me that I was snoring, nice try Mr. J, so I went back to the cabin for a nap. Lol.

Ports: Nassau & Grand Turk. We didn't get off the ship in Nassau, I pulled the curtain back on our ocean view window and it looked like it did a few months ago, and it also looked HOT! Since I'm allergic to the sun we decided against it. Lol. I love Grand Turk, it was a short walk to the beach, and guess what, it was kind of cloudy (haha) we got in the water and there was even some lightning in the distance!! Ok I probably would rather be in the sun than to get struck by lightning, just so y'all don't think I'm totally crazy! This was a special day, it was my "surgery-versary" six years ago this day I had open heart surgery, and every year Mr. J treats me to something special! We swam for what seemed like hours, but really wasn't that long, but at least we got off the ship, right? We sat out in the port area to dry off and then headed back to the ship, it was a perfect day for us!

Debarkation: We did self-assist debarkation and was off the ship at 7:30. When we went through customs the agent looked at the $0 on our form and said to me "so you didn't buy any diamonds this trip" I said no, so he looked at Mr. J and then looked down at my birthdate on my passport and said "then I guess she'll be getting those diamonds on this date!!!! Yesssss, first the check in lady reminded him I'm a keeper, and now a government official was telling him to buy me diamonds, I see a Tiffany Blue box in my future!!! We were on a $25 per person shuttle at 7:30 that only had 2 other people on it, and we were at Orlando International at 8:20 for our 11 am flight ( book a early flight at your own risk:))

Hope you enjoyed the review, now off to take my nap!!!

Thanks for the great review! We are cruising on the Sunshine in a few weeks. Can you tell me the shuttle company you used?

  10. I tried to book with him but $60 for two people seems awfully steep. Any other shuttle companies have better rates for two people? I can't believe we are the only couple who have ever traveled alone...LOL

I think that is the amount, if there are only two people taking the shuttle. My husband and I have used Jiffy Jeff twice, and we never paid but $15.00 pp. They pick you up in a BMW van, so he has plenty of room for other passengers. I can't say enough great things about this service.

  11. Budget is typically around $30 for a midsize. Are you looking for something bigger

We can go this route. We were pricing both compact, as well as midsize. There is $15-$20 charge to drop a vehicle at the port. I will check Budget, but I believe they also charge the drop off fee. I appreciate your feedback. Thanks a bunch.

  12. A one-way rental (even with possible drop-off fees) from MCO is bound to be cheaper that four separate shuttle fares + tip. Do the math and you'll see.

My husband found a vehicle for $87.00 (including fees). He also located a shuttle for $20.00 pp. Of course, this doesn't include a tip. This is why I wanted recommendations and/or directives. I should have laid out the costs in the first posting. Thanks.

  13. Thanks so much. I checked out De Palm Island, and it looks great. I think it might be beyond our budget. $400 for the day is bit steep; considering the other ports we are traveling through. I may take the taxi route. Can you recommend a beach to be dropped off, and then take a taxi home. I do think the girls would love the farms and sanctuary.

Yikes-I messed up our port time! I thought we were in port 8-4. We are in port 1pm until 10 pm! I have lost my mind. Thanks.

  14. I would, rent a taxi for a few hours, and in the interest of the kids, tailor the day to them.

    Three stops:

    1. Donkey Sanctuary

    2. Butterfly Farm

    3. Ostrich Farm

You will see some of the sights along the way.

Taxis will run $45 per hour holding a maximum of 5 people.

In three hours you could see all of those places. Perhaps conclude by having the driver drop you off at Palm beach for some swimming. The waters are calm and lake like.

    OR

Spend the day at De Palm Island. Your ship more than likely will include an excursion there which would include transportation.

  15. Yes take them to the Sea Aquarium beach - lovely safe beach, lots of cafes and shops and the sea aquarium at the end of the beach - dolphin shows 3 x a day plus a wonderful sea lion show whcih explains all about the lovely creatures

Thanks so much! Could you tell me how long it takes to get there? Is it reasonable to take a cab, etc.?

  16. We just stayed at Comfort Inn and Suites Cocoa Beach. They use Travelynx. It's a shared shuttle so leaving the airport we waited about a 1/2 hour for a shuttle. Our shuttle was a very nice van. We had 3 different hotel stops. Our's was the 2nd. It takes awhile to get to Cocoa Beach from the airport. We got to the hotel about nine and went looking for food everything within walking distance closed at 10 (on a Friday in August REALLY?) So we were out of luck. We ended up ordering not so great pizza in the room.

The shuttle in the morning is very organized you wait in a banquet room. I asked for an early shuttle because we had faster to the fun and they honored that when we got to the hotel they had already assigned us an early shuttle time.

The Comfort inn and suites package does include a return trip to the airport. This point of the experience was chaos. There is a person you check in with they coordinate which shuttles go to hotels or airport. We waited about a 1/2 hour for a shuttle. Again its a shared shuttle my husband had about a 1/2 a seat on the way back to the airport. The van was full! The two people he sat with took up almost 2 1/2 of the 3 seats (not due to their size just by choice).

I loved the Port Canaveral Terminal much more relaxed than Baltimore!

We gave the Comfort Inn a try. I would do something different next time. By the way the lobby staff at the hotel is great if you choose to stay there!

How much did it cost you for the shuttle service? There are four of us. We are trying to figure out if we want to rent a car to the port, and then return to the airport.
