  1. When we originally booked the cruise, the port taxes were indeed $104. I've kept checking prices, and even though the fares have been going up, the taxes have dipped to $92. I inquired about it and Carnival said that they won't adjust the port taxes on a booked reservation, but that I can expect to receive OBC once on the ship for whatever the difference is.
Tapi, do you think that is only because you called and asked? Is their less port fees on a smaller ship? Thanks, Karen
  2. Although there's a handful of people that may fall in the "idiot" category, it's not them who the focus is when it comes to emergency procedures. At least in my line of work, crew members are trained to pinpoint those passengers who will be able to assist them in case of a real emergency, long before it actually happens. And this is happening without no one else realizing it.

As mentioned before, there are too many variables involved in a real emergency. But the best that we can do is to have confidence in the common sense of the vast majority of passengers. Furthermore, that between the training and effort of the crew members, assisted by those passengers able and willing to go that extra mile, that the negative impact of those "idiot" passengers can be minimized as much as possible. Do you think this is why they give discounts to Police and Firefighters and the Military on cruises? :)
  3. This will be our first cruise with Carnival, so to be honest I don't know what cutbacks are there, but I do know I have read enough to actually put me off the upcoming cruise for my 50th birthday :(

it seems there will be practically nothing to do in the afternoons if we do not go off ship and also there will only be pizza after 9:30pm

well its paid and we are going but bet your bottom dollar I will be back on CC with full review and what I think about the value for my money was ;)

  4. A year ago this past spring, I think, on Princess the DR. from the Love Boat was on. He spoke to us one night. They actually filmed 6 weeks, in the summer, on the ship. I've forgotten which ship but it was the same ship each year.

What fun to be on that ship when they were filming the TV show!

We're off today, driving to port Canaveral. We are getting on the Sunshine, 8 days, tomorrow. When we get back to port, we'll walk over to the Freedom and get on her. (Yes, we are cruise-a-holics!) We'll leave in about an hour, 6:30. It's a 10 hour drive and le leave our car at the hotel for free, free shuttle to the port.

Have fun I know you will. May I ask what Motel or Hotel you use? Thanks, Karen :)
  5. Conch Train tours can also be booked online, where you see a little savings. Adult ticket cost purchased there is $30.45 or $27.30 for Seniors or Military. If pre-purchased, the tickets for adults are $27.41, or $24.57 for Seniors or Military. They also offer some packages if you want to see some attractions.
