BREAKING news, Price Drop Policy...new info

Response from RCI UK via our TA ......

" The £35 charge, I asked them about this and they said they don’t actually do this in America"

Now then is that due to the complaints or are they once again stiffing UK passengers ?

Wow, I'm starting to regret booking a cruise now!

This will be my first one - I book all of our hols independtly but I thought I'd go for a safer option and book cruise and flight together via a TA. The TA didnt give me a choice of rooms so went with what I was given - on checking there are HUMP (?) cabins available which I gather are good to have so tried to change this with RC - they wont discuss it, I have to back though TA..I havent got round to this yet but dont think I'll bother if that will be my "free" change. I'll stick with what I've got and see if I can get a price drop instead (we arent going until Feb).

I also wanted to upgrade flights, Virgin would charge £425 return, RC want £630........now I remember why I've never used a TA in 6 years!

Just an FYI, as there has been some confusion over price drops post-final payment, as well as the new policy that has already been rescinded--I just got $180 credited back to my c/c for a price drop on a 10/4 AOS cruise...not OBC, but a refund back to my credit card.

this has always been the policy, the new/rescinded one would have changed that after final payment

Rather then have this info buried in the other thread I thought I would make it a separate one.

I just got off the phone with both the rep on the travel agent line AND Crown and Anchor and they said the change in policy for price drops that was to start TODAY, has been canceled and at this time they have no further time frame if it is going to be changed or when that could happen.

I did explain that I was told the complete opposite this morning and she said they had numerous complaints and it was rescinded earlier today. :D:D

Good news.....

Sue - Can you ask them to Grandfather Diamond Members in the Concierge Club on Voyager Class again....LOL !!!

I'm missing something here.... IF they did institute the new policy, it would still result in a refund for , you'd just have to wait longer for it? If you get OBC and don't use it, they credit it back then right?

that is my understanding, just a different way of getting the money back.

Ok, I avoided getting in the middle of the other thread (it seemed more like a whinefest than informational thread IMHO), so since it seems that the policy hasn't changed after all, I will comment here. If I understand correctly they were no longer going to give you a monetary refund or credit card refund. The only downside was that you got an OBC which if you didn't use it you could cash it out in the casino at a cost of 3%. Unless I am missing something. What the heck is the big deal? Most price drops are a less than a few hundred bucks. Even the most frugal spenders can easily spend that amount and even if they don't on $300 the 3% is $9. OMG, the inhumanity of it all.

In my opinion, RCI has always been very fair by allowing many discounts after final payment. They did not have to do that, not all of their competition does it. I benefitted one time after 911 by almost $2000 by a price drop on airfare booked with the cruiseline, but that said, I was thrilled to get the discount, but if they hadn't, I had previously purchased the cruise, and at the time I did so I was happy with the deal. I just don't get all of the emotional outbursts on this topic.

Actually slight clarification, some where back in the posts Sue L pointed out that the "extra" obc at the end of the cruise would just be credited back to the card on your account. Not necessary to cash out in casino for 3%, it would be automatically done.

It would not bother me if it was use it or lose it.In ways I would welcome an excuse to get an overpriced massage or a few other things that I would normally be to frugal to pay for.The new policy IMHO was not cancelled just postponed for the time being.RCCL policies are going the direction of their competitors.Changes happen everywhere everyday. My cable company in an effort to keep cost down have removed some of the extra HBO,Starz and other movie channels,The TP Roll continues to shrink along with the calorie saving space saving ice cream carton.Heck ,I recently noticed an 11.3 OZ beer bottle. Its not just RCCL.

It was NOT a rumor , they were doing it and then they rescinded it, change of plans plain and simple.

Someone here claimed that they heard it from someone who said they were with RCL. They didn't post any official press release from RCL. They did not post a link with the pricing policy. Sure sounds like a rumor to me.

The main problem here is the following:

1. The marjority of price drops happen within the 3-2 month window before the cruise departure date. I am looking at a cruise on the Oasis. The odds are, the price will fall, probably with a 55+ or resident rate.

On my Solstice Cruise Last Year, I had a price drop of $1236, which I would NEVER spend onboard the cruise ship. I spent $500 max on my seapass, which under RCL's new policy, would leave me with $736 left to spend - Non-refundable.

Just playing devil's advocate here, where does it say it is non-refundable if you don't use all your OBC? Someone this week had asked and was told it would be refundable. I have not seen it in writing either way so don't really know, just asking the question.

It is a policy that I have dealt with before. I had unused OBC and the Purser at the Front Desk told me it was non-refundable. I had to go and spend my money or otherwise I would have lost it.

Interesting point though on your part. I shall investigate. :)

Edit 5:55 pm

Just Called. They said with the new policy, if you encounter a price drop after the final payment, it will be applied as onboard credit. Any onboard credit that is not used at the end of the cruise can be refunded by going to the Purser's Desk.

That makes this policy not that big of a deal then for me :D Thanks AKCRUZ for playing the devil's advocate! lol
