Rare Essiesmom Posted September 5, 2009 #26 Share Posted September 5, 2009 As you can see from this thread, there are a lot of stowaways that travel and never leave their cabins...When you leave the ship in port, turn around and look at the windows/portholes...there are a lot of little ones there looking out, wondering why they have been left behind. On our Carnival Dream roll call, there are so many traveling that we are having a tea party for them (hostessed by a 4y/o), a slumber party at the movies, and we are hoping for a group photo with the captain. Essie is also hoping to gather them together in the casino and introduce them to gambling. did I mention Essie has a few vices? Carolyn
CruisinCadie Posted September 5, 2009 #27 Share Posted September 5, 2009 I'm a children's librarian, and one summer our library sponsored Traveling Teddy Bears (and Friends), where kids could check out a stuffed animal, take him/her on vacation, and take photos to exhibit at the library. Since I was going on a Mexican Riviera cruise in early May, I took one of the bears with me. Peaches already had a party dress, and I made her a bikini. One of my favorite photos is of Peaches in her bikini, reclining on a deck chair, reading a tour guide. She was a sure conversation starter, and I was easily identifiable when I walked into the Cruise Critic party with her in my arms.:) Kathy
AlanAllyn Posted September 5, 2009 #28 Share Posted September 5, 2009 Our Flat Stanleys came already laminated, a great convenience because we never knew when they might fall in the soup. They traveled via air & sea & sent postcards from every destination. Mail from Stanley is highly treasured. No one ever refused to be photographed with them - ship's captains, anyone in a uniform or outrageous outfit. He's a character in a story book from 20 years ago or more, and every grandchild has enjoyed sending him off in the fall of kindergarten and welcoming him home in the spring. He posed in supermarket baskets in Israel surrounded by labels in the Hebrew alphabet, and on Grandpa's shoulder everywhere. Pictures of him peaking into a menus allowed a reminder of names of destinations. The great part about carrying him was that he helped us to meet interesting people. Take Stanley to the boat drill. Friendly adults would ask why seemingly sane people would be posing for pictures with a paper doll - and friendships would start. This is an especially good way for out of town grandparents to stay in touch with little children.

Ships R Great Posted September 5, 2009 Author #30 Share Posted September 5, 2009 I am hoping to get a picture of him with the Mercury captain in December. I don't think I will take him into the casino, tho' He's too young for that. I guess he won't be allowed in the late night lounges either. He'll just hae to stay in the cabin alone sometimes. Maybe I can leave him with the children's activities people while we party.
jackdiamond Posted September 5, 2009 #31 Share Posted September 5, 2009 The best thing to do with Fat Stanley is to put him on a diet. As you are aware the folks most at risk from the N1H1 are people with asthma, diabetes, smokers and those who are obese.
Rare Essiesmom Posted September 6, 2009 #32 Share Posted September 6, 2009 Essie introduces Flat Stanley to the casino... Beach picnic, and buried in the sand. The bottle at his left hand is beer...another of Essie's little problems... Trying out the hot tub... Carolyn
