On Board Credit?

:rolleyes:For those with experiance using On Board Credit.

What can (or not) we bill to our on board credit while sailing on NCL?

I'm thinking that you've never sailed on NCL before and have an onboard credit on your upcoming cruise. So, here's how it works.

When you check in at the pier, you will give them your credit card or cash (even if you have on board credit coming) to cover your onboard expenses. You will then be issued a ships card with your name on it. Each person in your cabin gets one. You will use this card anytime you purchase anything on board as they don't take cash on the ship anywhere but in the casino...you play with cash there.

Anything that you "charge" to your ship card, goes onto your on board account. Not only do things you purchase go onto that account but your daily service charge also. So, even if you buy nothing on board, you will still have the daily service charge added to your onboard account.

If you have an onboard credit, that will be applied to your onboard account as a credit. It will directly reduce your bill. So if you acrue $500 in expenses while onboard, and you have $300 onboard credit, the balance will be $200 owed which they will apply to the credit card you gave them prior to boarding.

Most people spend over what their onboard credit amount is, but if you happen to have onboard credit left over when the cruise is done, you will lose it. So, I'd suggest you keep track of what you are spending and if you are going to have any credit left over, go to the casino cashier and do a cash advance. That way, you will use up every penny and not leave any on the ship.

Have a great trip!

I think you can not use the OBC for daily service charges unless you or someone else purchased an OBC for you.

At one time there seemed to a NCL "rule" that did not allow the OBC to be used for the daily service charge. In reality, it still was since it was just a credit on the account, just like cash, etc. Apparently they finally stopped saying that and it is just a credit and if you did not spend money on anything else, it would be fine.

Just about EVERYTHING on the ship goes to your onboard account. Speciality restuarants, drinks, excursions, photo's, gift shops, etc. You can even charge cash/chips for the casino to your onboard account.
