twoatsea Posted September 18, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2009 Arrive Southhampton on 11/11/2009. Flying to Rome from London. British Airways has 2 flights - same price, same time - but one flies out of Heathrow & one flies out of Gatwick - both nonstop. Which airport is favored by travelers & why??? Will be taking a private car service from S.Hampton to the airport - is one airport transfer normally costlier than the other? (I've emailed them, but they all seem to be gone for today - time issue) Is the travel better to one over the other - traffic, possible road block, etc? Thanks, Julie
twoatsea Posted September 18, 2009 Author #2 Share Posted September 18, 2009 Sorry for the bother, problem solved. The price went up on the Heathrow flight, so I grabbed the Gatwick flight. Don't know how to erase this thread.

Southampton-Gatwick, there is a direct train, takes 2hrs (just under IIRC) and couldn't be easier. The only downside, is it may not run on Nov 11 (a holiday in a lot of places)

It is, however, a normal working day so the trains will be busier during the morning peak, as one would expect.
Saturated Posted September 19, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2009 Gatwick is a much more user-friendly airport than Heathrow so you've hit a home run anyhow! :)

Globaliser Posted September 20, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2009 Gatwick is a much more user-friendly airport than Heathrow so you've hit a home run anyhow!Slightly less so for a year or so - the inter-terminal transit is being suspended and replaced by a bus transfer. Trials of the bus operations are still underway, as I understand it, and seem to be ironing out many of the initial gremlins.
