I'm not sure how many people have seen this, but here it is..........In St. Thomas, we are the LAST ship to get there, though we stay the latest (for whatever that's worth). In St. Maarten, the Oasis (again) beats us to port!

Hi there, I am on this itinerary on the Dream next Nov 2010...only one cruise under my belt...

What can we do in Nassau on a Sunday from 8 - 2:30 ? When I read the shore excursions they sound like they woudn't fit in that time frame? I asked this on the Bahamas forum but no replies...

Thanks!

Looks like you will be sharing all of your ports with quite a lot of ships. where did you find this great information? I'm on the sailing that starts March 6th. So I'll wave to you as you are getting off and I'm getting on. I would love to get the same layout that you have for the week of March 6th. If you could let me know where I can find this information that would be greatly appreciated.

There are several things to do in Nassau, I've been there so many times that I don't get off the ship anymore...You can catch a cab over to Atlantis and look around there- they have a huge casino and a great aquarium ...The straw market is there and several other places to shop down main street.....just make sure you take a photo ID with you to get back to the ship....Dennis

Hi, Dennis! We use cruisett.com now for ships in port. We did Dream's itinerary on Glory this past February and didn't have nearly the number of ships in port. What I liked about staying late in St. Thomas was sailing after dark (we had early dining). We just don't get to do that too often. Loved St. Maarten, but made the mistake of going to the supper club that night. Too much sun, too much beach, and lots of movement on the ship equaled a less than great supper club experience. I won't do the supper club on a port day again.:o

I just tried looking up my the ports for my upcomming cruise on cruisett.com... I was interested to see what other ships will be there when I am. Oddly enough though the info on that site doesnt seem to match what I have on my ittenerary. For example it shows my ship at a port the day before my ittinerary says we will be there.. odd.

Yes It appears it's not real accurate...It does not show the Oasis in port with us but I went to the RCCL website and it's gonna be there with us...5,400 passengers on the Oasis and 3,600 on the Dream......The Oasis itinierery is weird, they do a LOt of eastern sailing before it does any western..Dennis

I am a little confused...OP are you on the Dream or??

Oasis will really crowd the ports..

it is doing the Eastern until their new "Falmouth" port in Jamaica is finished

then it will go there (1/2 way between Ochos Rios and Montego Bay)

with the mega mega ships coming out all the ports will be more crowded

guess the private islands will help a bit with that

and new cruiseline created ports

although we may just have to all buy "same shizit , different island" tee shirts

cause that is how it feels

visit Diamonds International in every port...see the same stuff everywhere

Yes, this is the itinerary for the week of Feb. 27,2010...We will be the last ship to arrive in St. Thomas and I'm really wondering where are they going to park all these ships...I know we will NOT be going to Megan's Bay in the morning.....:).....Dennis

Wow that is a whole lot of people, especially in St Marteen. Book your excursions early people. Can the Oasis dock at any of those ports?

The Dream is 130,000 tons but I con't find out how long it is(Splendor is 952 feet) and the Oasis is 220,000 tons and 1,184 feet long.............I'm wondering if they will have to tender some people into port.....The Oasis is doing nothing but the Eastern itinerary in Jan., Feb.,March and April 2010, so any eastern the Dream does in those months they will be in port with the Oasis at St. Thomas and St. Martin...Dennis

I had just assumed it would have been a height issue not a length issue (in trems of being able to dock). Interesting at any rate.

I would hope neither ship would have to do any tendering. According to Nauticalcities, Dream is 1004'... just 41' longer than Spirit class. Oasis isn't supposed to have any tendering given the amout of passengers aboard; that's the plan for the moment anyway. A new pier is being built in St Maarten and in addition to St Thomas & Nassau being dredged, all to accommodate the Oasis class ships.

I think there are other piers at St. Thomas but I'm not sure how they are going to handle 7 ships at the same time...I think only 3 ships can dock at Havensight pier...........Dennis

There is a big to do right now about St Thomas getting the dredging done so Oasis can dock at Havensight. You have to keep in mind that the draft on Oasis is 35ft. Oasis can always dock at Crown Bay in St Thomas which is where Princess usually docks. Oasis is doing Eastern routes only for awhile because the Western stops won't all be ready. The pier is still being built in Labadee and the entire port at Falmouth, Jamaica won't be done until later next year. Oasis will swap out Jamaica with Cost Maya for a few months until it is done.

I was actually booked on this Dream Cruise for Feb 27. The port load is part of the reason why I switched the cruise. Now I will be on the Oasis the week before and the Dream in May.

Tom

I put all that together back in June from what I could find on Cruisecal.com (subscription site) for our three Dream bookings. For our 12/3/09 Dream sailing, someone on that roll call pointed out an error for our Grand Turk stop. I have not gone back to double check the above information, but I assume it's either correct - or very close!
