My husband and I are spending our honeymoon on Voyager's med. cruise in November. We are in Marseilles for a day. Is it possible to get from Marseilles to Nimes for the day to see the Roman ruins. Thanks!

The train from Marseille to Nimes will need about 1 1/4 hour.

You will need about 20-30 minutes to get to the station.

Or you take the ship's shuttle to old port (city center) and from here the subway to the railways station.

More information on http://www.tgv-europe.com.

Or if you prefer a private tour we used SSK on our last cruise on NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS:

You have a couple of options to get to Nimes. You could take the ships shuttle (or a taxi) into Marseille and than take a train from the train station (Marseille St Charles) to Nimes. Most of the direct trains take a little over an hour each way. Once in Nimes you can walk to the local ruins. Your other option is to rent a car for the day (there are several major rental car companies near the Marseille train station) and drive yourself. One advantage to driving would be that its possible to also go to Pont du Gard which is a very interesting place for those interested in Roman ruins. Pont du Gard is not accessible by train.

Hank is right on considering the option of a rental car and also seeing Pont du Gard, etc. This site is super wonderful and well worth the extra effort. Plus, with a car you can get more of the flavor of Provence and its beautiful countryside. Maybe, you can also drive through super charming Saint-Remy. It is a lovely area with so much to offer and experience and has its Roman ruins, a population of 9000 and is the setting of world-famous literature. Saint-Remy is one of the most representative of Provençal towns and allows the visitor to appreciate the true charm of this oft-celebrated region of the country

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Agree with Terry about St Remy but did not mention the option since its somewhat further away from the port than Nimes and Pont du Gard. We recently spent 2 weeks in St Remy (rented an apartment) and loved every moment.
