Fort Lauderdale hotel?

You do understand that the shopping and dining areas of Las Olas are not within walking distance of the beach. Las Olas Blvd goes from downtown Ft Lauderdale to the beach, but the shopping and dining area of Las Olas is in downtown Ft Lauderdale. You can take the Water Taxi to/from the commercial part of Las Olas to the beach hotels.

I'm not sure what "reasonably priced" means to you, but these are the less expensive beach hotels with easy access to Las Olas Blvd.:

Marriott Courtyard Ft Lauderdale Beach... http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/fllco-courtyard-fort-lauderdale-beach/

Bahia Mar... http://www.bahiamarhotel.com/

Marriott Beach Place (primarily a time share property, but they also double as a hotel)... http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/fllbp-marriotts-beachplace-towers/

If you want to stay in the shopping dining area of Las Olas there's the Riverside Hotel... http://www.riversidehotel.com/

The shopping/commercial district of Las Olas is 2 miles west of the beach, but the east end of Las Olas Blvd is at the beach, intersecting with A1A. The Jungle Queen leaves from really close to the Bahia Mar, which is a decent low cost hotel across the street from the beach. The Bahia Mar has a water taxi stop where you get get a ride to downtown Las Olas. I think you could also take the Sun Trolley. You can walk to the main beachfront shopping/dining/bar area in 15 minutes from there. The Courtyard Marriott is about 5 minutes closer to the main beachfront. The Yankee Clipper is closed until sometime next year. The Sheraton Harbor Beach hotel is really nice (not inexpensive), but is a pretty far walk from anything.

Hi Trent:

We have not been to Fort Lauderdale for awhile and now are going Nov. 25 to 29th for boarding the Emerald Princess on a 1 week cruise.

We are flying in late on the Wednesday night and would have to take a taxi from the airport (FLL) and get right to the hotel - it will be after midnight no doubt. We board the ship Sunday morning.

We would like a good hotel on near the beach and if not that, on the Water Taxi (if it still runs, it was great years ago) and maybe even take the bus but you can wait up to an hour for that one.

We don't want to spend more than about $100 per night including tax and a free breakfast.

When the ship returns on Dec. 6 we are looking for 2 nights until we fly out Dec. 8th. This is how we got a bargain fare with WestJet. We are coming from Toronto. We are members of CAA whcih has the same rights, etc. as your AAA and also CARP which is recognized by US AARP.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. We have rented a car in the past but would prefer not to if we can get away with it. By the way, do you know if that Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood has any shuttles to it?

Thanks

Johanna

For some reason the AAA & senior rates are higher than the regular rates on some of these so check both ways.

On the beach:

Bahia Mar... http://www.bahiamarhotel.com/

Marriott Courtyard ... http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/fllco-courtyard-fort-lauderdale-beach/

On SE17th Street about 2 miles from the beach:

Hyatt Place... http://ftlauderdaleairport.place.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/place/index.jsp

Holiday Inn Express... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hotel/fllcc

Extended Stay America... http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/hotels/fort-lauderdale-convention-center-marina.html

Yes, the Water Taxi is still running... http://www.watertaxi.com/

I don't recall the Seminole Hard Rock having any shuttles.

Hi Trent:

Thank you for the links. We have booked the long term stay hotel and it looks good. We are there for 4 days. We can book the Dec. 6 to 8th hotel while in Ft. Lauderdale. I wonder if we should book that too.

We have looked at the schedule and the water taxi and it all looks good. Not too far from the Extended Stay place. Rates are good too, just over $60 per night plus taxes.

Thanks again for your help.

Four years ago, we took a cruise to Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale. We drove down from Canada for a family road trip... went to Disney World for a few weeks...and then drove down to Fort Lauderdale. We stayed at the Bahia Mar , and stayed there justfor the night, as the cruise left the next morning.

We were happy with it, I booked it online without knowing the area, so I wasnt sure how we would make out. I got a really good rate, with CAA as well and it was right across from the beach, and not too far from the port. We were able to drive around easily ( No GPS at the time :)

We parked our vehicle at the port during the cruise, and had no problems. We also stayed again for a night on the return end. I would recommend this hotel....becuase of the location & ease of getting to where we needed to go.

Hope that helps.

Dolores

BE ADVIsed (oops-silly caps lock) that the Ex Stay does not have shampoo or tissues.....it is very basic! (although plenty of places to buy that stuff within walking distance!)
