Why do we eat with strangers on cruises but nowhere else?

Recommended Posts

On our first two cruises I requested a table for two and that's what we got. I HATED the thought of having to eat with and talk to strangers every night.

Our third cruise was booked so close to departure that I couldn't get a table for two, even after badgering the maitre' d upon boarding. We were stuck with a table for EIGHT. It turned out to be a highlight of the trip and one of the first things we mention when the topic comes up.

There were three other couples, two from England, one from South Carolina. They were awesome. It was fun and fascinating. I will still request a table for two on our next cruise, because it's an anniversary celebration, but if we don't get it, that's fine, too.
