Is there anywhere on the ship where children aren't permitted?

We are travelling with our 1 year old son on the Valor at the end of January so this is an entirely different cruise experience for us! I was wondering where children aren't permitted on the ship? I'd really like to be able to see the majority of the ship even for a few minutes (to just look at the decor). I had figured I would do this while he was sleeping in his stroller during his afternoon nap or at nighttime. I just really have no idea where to expect to be able to bring him. And of course, we won't allow him to disturb anyone else's vacation. :)

Thx.

I think you have to be at least 15 or so for the spa. I know I was able to get my daughter a massage for her 15th birthday,. I dont think they are allowed in the gym with out a parent.

Hmmm... I always used to want facials when I was 13-15, and no cruise line would ever allow it. They said they were unable to let children under 18 be alone in a room with any of their staff. Therefore they would only allow me to get my hair and nails etc done, where I'd be in a room full of people. This makes legal sense, I wonder how they were able to massage a 15 year old girl. Even with a female massuse that gives you grounds for a lawsuit.

As for areas where children aren't allowed, I agree with all above mentioned places. Also, I would not recommend brining a child that young anywhere that there is a very quiet atmosphere like a library etc... simply because children are unpredictable, and could become an annoynce to others.

Most of Carnival ships have a nudity area for sunbathing, somewhere on top near the funnel area I believe...casino's are off limits to those under the age of 18, spa's are off limits to those under the age of 16 (unless rules have changed) and children under the age of 16 cannot use the gym without a parent around with them.

I do know that children can go up to bars and order a soft drink but not to sit there even with their parents as would any bar or restaurant bar in any of these states not allow. Hope this helps. :)

I have never, yet (will be a grammy late 7/05, planning cruise for 06), travelled with a child that young. However, I suspect if you want a spa treatment, to go to the casino or late nite comedy show and the little person is in a stroller and not making a fuss no one will toss you out. The little guy is much too young to know or care about the games or bad language. I do plan to do some babysitting so my DD can enjoy some time off, but it will be my vacation too and I do not plan to be a nanny.

Thanks for your insight. I really don't want to put anyone else out on their vacation b/c we choose to travel with our child. I also would be really embarassed if I was asked to leave somewhere with him.

Marvholly, That is the sort of thing I was wondering too... If we could sneak into the adult comedy shows while he was sleeping. I imagine in the casino they would enforce it but the comedy show he wouldn't understand a thing even if he was to wake up.

Knatl,

Oh and I totally forgot about there being a topless deck. You're right he might think it was a bar! ;)

If you just want to tour the ship, you can. We usually start on embarkation day then check out the rest of the ship either on sea days or whenever we have a little time. Touring and parking somewhere with your child are two different things. ;)

I'm just back from a New Year's cruise on the Valor with 4 year old and 14 year old daughters. Granted, it was holiday break week, so the ship was full of kids, but the staff were not at all strict or concerned about keeping kids out of the technically restricted areas. My four year old and I walked through the spa and quietly took a shower, and my 14 year old got a massage -- no questions asked and no indication of any concern for enforcing age restrictions. There were young teenage boys using the exercise bikes in the gym. I wasn't even sure if there were age restrictions after a seeing some confusing information about restricted v. parental accompaniment required, and not seeing any signs of enforcement. I didn't notice any topless areas.

You'll get to see the casino, even with a child in tow, as everyone has to pass through the casino to get through the ship on the main Promenade level. I think the idea is that you just can't hang out for extended periods in the casino with a child. The Valor has a small shallow children's wading pool. All of the hot tubs have posted signs saying that they are for ages 16 and up, but in the Carnival Capers newletter, it said that only the two tubs at the back of the ship were age restricted.
