Need to ask a question regarding what type of shots and medication we should consider taking with us on our 7 day mexican riveria cruise? This is our first cruise maybe there are some parents out there that have cruised with children before. We live in British Columbia and was wondering if Vacination that kids get @ 2 months/6 months 18 months and 2yrs are enough. I was thinking of taking a mini medicine kit!!!!!:o

Take whatever you have in your medicine cabinet at home. Decongestants, anti-histimines, tummy aids...bandaids, antibiotic creams....any other Rx medications your kids use on a regular basis.

Of course you HAVE to take a mini-medicine kit...that's only prudent!

You won't need any "shots", unless your doctor feels your children are compromised in some way, and need something special.

Definitely take any over the counter meds that may come up, along with a thermometer. My little girl came down with a raging ear infection our first night of a Mex Riviera cruise, and it was great to talk to the ship nurse in the middle of the night and be able to tell her what my daughter's temp was. The nurse said to give my girl motrin and then bring her in during the regular office hours, thus avoiding a large bill for a "cabin call". The doctors have always been great on board (we've had to visit a few times), and wonderful with children and prepared to treat them.

FYI - in all of our Mex Riviera cruises, there were pharmacies at the port where we could buy meds if necessary, but, of course, you want to have your own on hand.

Best,

Mia

I just came back from bringing my 2 kids to their doctor today. They each got the flu vaccine (H1N1 is not available yet, but they will get it when it is). When I told him we were going to Mexico he also had me get them each a hepatitis A vaccine.

We took the usual stuff we'd want to have at home, knowing its a bit tougher to find stuff overseas, esp for SMALL kids. I would recommend choosing anything in a tablet form of course...my 2 yr old prefers them (they are like vitamins)! Another thing to recommend, we all take probiotics daily...and made sure to take them with us on our cruise. I was unable to find a children's probiotic that DIDNT need to be cold, but took small blue ice packs to get it to where we had a fridge.

As far as shots, none are needed. We do not vaccinate (by choice and research) and have never had any problems going into Mexico, nor were we ever scared. I'd be more afraid of the airport & ship than of being in Mexico!
