Rare Essiesmom Posted October 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 16, 2009 If you check prices out of JAX, they are going up not down. Carnival is doing well there, why would they leave? EM
bguppies Posted October 16, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 16, 2009 If you check prices out of JAX, they are going up not down. Carnival is doing well there, why would they leave? EM Because the locals rebuffed efforts to build a new cruise terminal. They can only use the big warehouse facility they are using right now for so long. I just hope the locals here in Charleston don't do the same thing. Just saw the first drawings of the proposed new terminal in Charleston in the paper today. If they do go with that proposal, it will be amazing. Bill

Bill In Jax that would be a small subset of the locals rebuffed the effort, mostly the NIMBY crowd. My take, what was originally pushing Jaxport to find a new location for the cruise ship terminal was they needed the ground the current terminal is on for a cargo terminal that was promised to shipping company. With the down turn in the economy the shipping company doesn't need the terminal as soon as originally planned. Jaxport withdrew their cards for the cruise ship terminal. It still owns the land slated for the new cruise ship terminal in Mayport, so I won't be surprised if this gets raised up again.
