seapenarth Posted October 27, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2009 Would like to visit Tarquinia and Ceri whilst docked in Civtavecchia. Any recommended Tour companies and how long should we allow for such a tour ?
Rare teacherman Posted October 27, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 27, 2009 We have visited both of those places as part of a tour/transfer from Rome to Civitavecchia. We used RomeCabs both times and were very pleased with the service. You can probably do Tarquinia on your own via either train or bus from Civitavecchia and most likely it would take about 5 or 6 total hours for a nice visit. Ceri is more tricky to get to, and while it is "cute" there really is not anything there. If you do a tour to Tarquinia, you kight want to include Valle De Marta, about 2 miles from Tarquinia, for a wine-tasting and lunch. We did that as part of our tour and it was very enjoyable. Good luck.
GSPLover Posted October 27, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 27, 2009 Tarquinia is very easy to do by bus on your own. Do Not take the train as the station in Tarquinia is nowhere close to 'old town'. The bus puts you right at the doorstep. Check www.ftroute.com/tarquinia.cfm for travel details.
cheffip Posted November 1, 2009 #4 Share Posted November 1, 2009 I just did Tarquinia from Civitavecchia on my own last month. It was very easy, about 1/2 hour on the local bus which was clean and inexpensive. There is a tourist office where you get off the bus in Tarquinia which can supply you with a map of the town and advice. It's a quiet and pleasant place with a number of nice restaurants and of course the very good Etruscan museum.
MSPCUBS Posted November 14, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2009 I am thinking about renting a car and driving to Tarquinia as I will be with my 81 year old mother. Would that be easy to do? Are there other places to stop near by?
jeana Posted November 20, 2009 #6 Share Posted November 20, 2009 I agree that the bus is very convenient and inexpensive to Tarquinia. However, it is a hill town, so be sure your Mom can walk those hills. Very beautiful Etruscan city.
