Cruising89143 Posted November 7, 2009 #151 Share Posted November 7, 2009 I see the same ole people who did NOT receive an invite to a PI cruise are still sore. LAMO.:D This is so amusing. I guess the ones going on the free cruise had better watch out as we have someone that is going to report you to the big bad watchdogs.:D Hilarious that someone is that jealous. Cruising89143 Posted November 7, 2009 #152 Share Posted November 7, 2009 this is not a blog though, besides it is a lot of hot air to legitimize the existence of the agency, they can't get rid of porn do you honestly think they are going to go after someone who got free dog food? LOL. Some don't get it Sue.:D
coxswain Posted November 7, 2009 #153 Share Posted November 7, 2009 I would say fine as many places give free things for bringing in people, not that I would believe you but.... I thought the tour guide was part gestapo and she is lucky none of us were given the opportunity to review her. Well i thought she was very good but see that's how 2 people can have different views - just like our Brilliance cruise. jj......

Sue L Posted November 7, 2009 #155 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Well i thought she was very good but see that's how 2 people can have different views - just like our Brilliance cruise. jj...... Well just proves again I am a positive person and concentrate on the good, like the new friends I made, the wonderful ports we visited, the wonderful food and much of the entertainment and don't let the negatives of the last two days mar the wonderful memories of the first 10 days. TahoeBob Posted November 7, 2009 #157 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Each time I visit my TA's office it amazes me the number of young people (computer savvy age) that are in her office. Not because they can't use a computer but because they don't know how to travel or where to travel and need advice, which you are not going to get from the gnome. I like to book all of my own travel, just because i enjoy spending the time on the computer. the number of my coworkers who approach me to kind out how I get all these great deals is very high. Like you said its not because they don't know how to use a computer, its because of all the other things. The biggest thing I find is that they just don't have the time. Some people think discussions boards are blogs, an example is that Major in Texas posted on discussion board about the war and they are referring to it as his blog. Hard to get porn, easy pickings to target normal posts. After all this is Washington.

SEASONEDCRUZER Posted November 7, 2009 #160 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Again as TBS and others pointed out there is NO rules from the FTC the stuff you are pointing to has nothing to do with travel agents or even most of the industry. So you should stop bringing it up because it does NOT relate to anything we have all been discussing and your constant posting this bogus stuff totally destroy any credibility. We are clear and transparent and if you don't feel that way then you are dealing with the wrong agent or company. The Carnival freebie is an inaugural for agents to see the ship, it will be nice to see it but I don't know if it will be any more likely for me to recommend them and can't say it until I see the ship and the service, that is what a cruise should be judged on. All the lines host different events and lunches, tours because it is much easier to sell what you have seen. They are not giving me a free cruise they are giving me a tour of the ship that I happen to be able to spend the night on, we are not even leaving port. The other two I have are for other lines that I earned by taking a LOT of hours of classes to complete their companies training program. Most of the different companies want TA's to sell their products and provide little trips that they call FAMS (familiarization trips) but they are FAR from vacations. I was able to attend one a couple of months ago with Sandals in Jamaica. We were there in July with about 100 degrees and VERY humid. We arrived at our hotel Sandals Whitehouse at about 7pm, quick shower and change to have a pre planned dinner with the other 16 agents, next morning up at 6am and in a bus by 8am to tour and did not get back from seeing 4 properties in the blistering heat until 8pm that night, next morning had 4 hours of class and then at 1pm we had free time but it poured, so no sun and relaxation fun. Next morning packed and left for the airport late morning. So yes, I got a trip but it was business not vacation. It was a wonderful opportunity but it is not a relaxing vacation. I was just about to post something about FAMS myself! If anyone believes a FAM is a vacation then they are delusional! Last fam someone in my office went on COST CAD 399.00 per person and was for 3 nights 4 days in Panama. This quick trip consisted of: A whole day of travel from Vancouver to Panama, 1 night at the first resort (did not arrive there until after 2 am!!) Up at 6 am day 2 to dress and repack as they will be spending the night at a different hotel (business attire must be worn to ALL functions) Breakfast at 7 am 8 am to 4 pm Hotel site inspections (all agents must visit the hotels as a group (200 agents in total) and see multiple room categories in 20 different hotels! (oh, also they must take the stairs as the elevators are for the guests) Arrive at new hotel, go to room, shower and dress for the evening (cocktail party at a different resort, then on to dinner at yet another resort, then after dinner show) didn't get back to room until 2 am again Up at 6 am again on day 3 (repack etc), destination education from 8 am to 1 pm, then lunch, then they went to see one of the locks at the Panama Canal. Taken to new hotel at 5 pm, shower and dress for the evening, another cocktail party, dinner and show, then back to the room at 1 am Up at 7 am to pack and head to the airport for the 12 hour flight (delays and connections) back to Vancouver I defy anyone to say that this was a "perk" this is WORK plain and simple! This agent was exhausted when she returned to work and the reason she went is so she could experience the destination and speak knowledgeably about it to clients who ask. It always makes me laugh when someone says you must travel all the time as you get to go for free! I wish that was the case, but it isn't! I prefer to book something paying the consumer rate that any of you would get to go to a destination I want to learn more about, I watch for good deals just like anyone else (OK I do have the advantage of being able to search DURING work not just on a lunch break like others, so I guess that is a perk! ;)) than to go on a FAM where all I see of a place is the inside of 100 hotel rooms! I was offered a chance to attend an inaugural sailing once, but the airfare was going to cost CAD 1200 per person and we were short staffed at the office so I could not go :( JMHO of course, but the agents I know are hard working people who don't get rich doing their job, they do it because they love it! cruisinfanatic Posted November 8, 2009 #164 Share Posted November 8, 2009 Not fair, Sue L (I've always wondered; is the L for Liberty Travel?). TA's are more than welcome to stick around after commissions are eliminated, just as you did when airline commissions virtually disappeard. You will simply have to charge for your services - you know - great advice, being the advocate for the traveller against the mighty cruiseline when problems arise, changing cabins, applying price drops, etc. You would just be being paid by the cruiser and not the cruiseline. Aren't you tired of the obnoxious TA bashing that you've been doing for years now. And that's not even counting the last screen name you had. TA's are still here in spite of you. CTCPA Posted November 9, 2009 #165 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Actually, all financing on a newbuild like Oasis is capitalized and added to the construction cost. (consruction period financing, per American accounting rules.) The ship will be depreciated on a multi year basis starting when it is put into service and that yearly charge will include all construction costs including financial costs. Once the ship goes into service then interest expense paid after that is expensed as paid. So the poor projected results for the 4th qtr should not include interest paid while the ship was being built, since revenue miles don't start until Dec. at which time there will be income from the Dec cruises. Matching of revenues and costs, the basis of proper accounting. End of lesson, accounting 101. The man is right. No expenses until asset is actually placed into service. coxswain Posted November 10, 2009 #166 Share Posted November 10, 2009 limited space available in any single venue, for instance, that for the first time Royal Caribbean has set up an advance reservation system for show seating (bookable online up to three months prior to sailings). The line says passengers who don't pre-reserve space for show offerings such as a 90-minute version of the Broadway musical Hairspray still will be welcome but only if space is available. jj......
