Princess Special Offers

I see people referring to 2 for one offers and other specials. I guess I'm not paying strict attention, but how and when are such offers typically made? I suspect I'm missing a lot and I need to wake up;)

I usually get these offers in the form of an email. Not everyone gets every offer. They seem to be sent out randomly to different groups of people at different time. No way to tell who, what and where! :p

We receive notices about cruises by mail but never received an e-mail from them for some reason. We are Platinum members. The last 2 for 1 received was received in Sept. If I had to guess I would say 2 for 1 probably twice a year but other advertised cruises twice a month.

Call princess, the Captain's Circle dept. can check your account to see if it is set up to receive emails, and if the proper email is on file. If not they can change this within a minute or two. Captains Circle hours are m-f 6-6 pacific time. No weekends. Also, depending on the server you use, the emails could be blocked or go into spam, I have heard the blocking being primarily with comcast users/

Make sure you sign up for getting offers using your My Princess account as a first step. For some reason my wife usually will get the emails and US Post mailings - I think because most of our cruises were booked with her name first, as she was the one interfacing with TA's.

We've seen 2 for 1's maybe 2x/year maximum, and usually less. Many are followed up by brochures through the mail, which one has to jump on immediately before they are sold out. More often we will see the "Balcony for the price of an Oceanview" offer, but you have to look at the prices carefully.

Watch your mail for Princess ads that say "Princess Exclusives". These are the absolute best prices I've seen. I was lucky to get one lately and the price was better than I can get with a TA discount.

First. I want to thank all of you for your responses. I just received an "exclusives" mailing for Caribbean cruises, and while I have not had time to match them up on Princess.com, the prices in the mailer look exactly as I recall them to be on the cruise we've already booked. If that is the case, Princess appears to be running a scam. I can't imagine they think they can pull the wool over the eyes of seasoned Princess travelers, and why would they be so stupid as to offend their best customers? So, let me check, because I might have just maligned Princess unfairly, in which case I apologize in advance.:D.

Be aware that if someone you're traveling with receives a 2:1 offer, it's good ONLY for that person, even if your bookings are linked. After booking our Trans-Atlantic next September with a friend (each of us as a single in our own cabin, just one cabin away from each other), my friend received an email with a 2:1 offer. She was able to get the per-person rate for her cabin; I was not able to piggyback or get the offer. My TA tried several times. So, my friend is paying about half of what I am for the exact same cabin. We were both already booked so it wasn't a new booking offer. Needless to say, I'm seriously pissed and wrote to Princess in September. Haven't heard back yet.

OK, I checked and I do owe them an apology. The mailing shows a savings of $300 on a mini, $200 on a balcony, $300 on an oceanview, and $100 on an interior. These are on a Ruby cruise on which my DW and I are booked. But I must also say, that when I checked prices for that cruise on Princess.com the price on a balcony fluctuated between $1199 and $1399 in a matter of seconds.

You can do a LOT better than that with a good TA.

Note that many/most of the 2-for-1 offers are actually worded "Up to 2-for-1". ken

Maybe I was a bit too quick with my apology:( Just for kicks, last night I checked the Princess.com site and found the "exclusive" fares are now the standard fare for that particular cruise. So the special offer to faithful customers lasted a very short time. I am paying what I consider to be a good price, so I am really not complaining, but it does seem a bit strange to me that the special offer was so short lived for a cruise on a new ship which is still months away. But what do I know about pricinng and what it takes to fill up a ship?:p

I've sailed with Princess 8 times now, and have only ever received a 2-for-1 offer once for a cruise this past September, which I, of course, jumped on immediately.

Cruise #9 is booked for next March, and fortunately we booked it over a year in advance, and were able to take advantage of 2 price decreases. Now the fare for our category is $300+ more than what we are paying.

But I keep reading posts on CC about others getting 2-for-1 offers, and wonder why I'm not getting any of these. Maybe because I took advantage of the single offer I had received, and they figure I used my opportunity, so no more for me? But a friend, who also booked the 2-for-1 for that September cruise, has gotten other 2-for-1s sent to her since we returned.

I consider myself a Princess loyalist, and wish they did too ......... enough to reward me with at least some these great offers.

I have been thinking this over for a while and with the amount of data Princess gathers about you while on board (spending habits, drinking habits, casino), I am imagining they give more low price offers to those who spend more on board. At least that is what I would do if I were in their shoes and could data mine all my past passengers.

Pam, with the 2:1, does your friend pay only one "Hotel charge" for her cabin or does she have to pay double as if two persons were staying in the cabin?

Also, is the 2:1 at a specific fare or can it be used with say, a discounted fare?

Thanks, Jim

Actually, I've cruised on Princess only once (and for the record am VERY frugal) but I've received many discounted offers.

Maybe it is just Princess' way of inducing newbies to become loyalists?

Jim, you might be right, I just know they are using that data for SOMETHING. I was thinking about cashless cruising today and how the cruise lines could find a lot out about a person via their spending habits. Maybe they sell it to other companies but I really doubt they aren't using it at all.

That's an interesting take on things. My wife and I are almost Elites, so maybe we're being penalized!:p If we've ever gotten a 2 fer, I must have ignored it. There were times when they could have let us have the OS for free and we still couldn't have gone. So I might have just tossed the mailing. Incidentally, though it really makes no difference to me now, the cost sof the cruise on the Ruby are now back up to their original levels. They bounce around from minte to minute. For some inexplicable reason I am fascinated by all this.

I personally think it depends upon the weight of the darts and how fast they are spinning the dart board wheel . . .
