m steve Posted November 17, 2009 #26 Share Posted November 17, 2009 No balconies but I bet they served caviar. Mixed drinks were called cocktails and not martinis. Martinis were martinis. People dressed for travel like they did on airplanes. Cabins and suites still never looked like the ones in the movies except for the one in "A Night at the Opera". Screws and propellas, not Azipods. No internet cafes but real brewed coffee. Ships were Luxury Liners not floating malls. And I bet everyone danced to a name band.
m steve Posted November 17, 2009 #27 Share Posted November 17, 2009 sorry about the spelling. propellers is correct. After watching the film I like the new ships better but the excitement is gone. Travel is just routine and everybody does it. I have a menu and the ticket from my father's first flight on Eastern airlines from NY to Chicago. 1940's. The ticket looked like a train ticket not an eticket.
Homosassa Posted November 17, 2009 #28 Share Posted November 17, 2009 Because I have strayed and just came back from a cruise on a line that features "Freeslob" cruising, I appreciated seeing passengers that didn't look like they should be pitching their empty beer cans at the neighboring single wide.
