Thinking of booking on NCL? Read this first!

Now, I have a complaint. I found it hard reading this 1 cruise ship, 4 cruise ship thing. I thought it was something to do with past experience. I went back and see it was your rating system. Can you send me a bottle of wine for the trouble - just a joke, let it go.

At first I went "huh" to the cruise ships as well, but when I figured it out I thought it was humourous. :)

As for OP's review, I actually found it quite positive. Mostly everything was good to excellent (sorry, 3 to 4 Cruise Ships!) except for the spa manager's compensation (which wasn't all that bad IMHO).

I do think many replies here are a bit hard on OP for not asking for more lobster though. There are many people who feels uncomfortable complaining/making a request in front of others; it's unfortunate that the OP did not like the compensation provided by the HD though. I think the compensation was very good, and wouldn't expect a full refund as the fee for Tappenaki likely made NCL more money than the cost of a bottle of wine.

Not a huge poster on CC, but read so many of the posts and threads its not even funny. Its how I get ready for a cruise, and I spend alot of time on the road. Been on CC with Carnival, RCCL & HAL. Am now into the NCL threads due to taking the Jade next November. That being said, I have never, ever come across a group of CC'ers that are more 'blood thirsty' if you will than the NCL group. Its simply uncalled for people! Makes me wonder how many are directly affiliated with NCL. Take the good points of the original post along with the bad for what they are, one person's view. No need to go ape s*** and beat someone up for posting.

. . . and now you get to receive!:) Brace yourself.

I don't post much and never do on other line's sub-forum, but there always are a large contingent of cheer-leaders on every forum. Perhaps the NCL board is worst than most (which I don't really think is the case), but if it is the case it's probably because there are so many more unjust NCL bashers out there than the other lines.

Many times NCL get a bad rap for no reason at all...

An excellent review of your Jade experience which must have taken some considerable time to compose. Perhaps if you had even spent a fraction of that time doing a little homework you would not have been surprised at things which are normal on every cruise line.

I think it is totally unfair to use the "wont cruise NCL again" line just because of a couple of minor misunderstandings.

Hopefully you will have better luck on your next cruise.

So true!

But I'm sure the "good ole boy/girl" network will be here soon to give you the verbal thrashing you deserve.

Nobody here should be abusive or dish our "verbal thrashings" for a difference in opinion. However, there are many who thoroughly enjoy NCL and are not likely to allow an unpopular stance to go unanswered. That is what a discussion board is all about. It is the compilation of all opinions and reviews that provide the best perspective of a cruise line. If only the naysayers were allowed to speak, NCL would be given a bad name, which they so do NOT deserve.

Then you obviously do not hang out on the Princess boards.

The title of the thread is not bad at all - pretty non-commital. All it suggests is reading the post is a good idea - as people on here have suggested, research before cruising is a good idea.

Without the exclamation point maybe. This was purely posted here as a warning and the OP did not want any one booking NCL because she felt somehow slighted.

It was a warning post, with incorrect information in the warning.

It's like saying "stay away from pancakes, they explode when you eat them".

The spa may be expensive, but they do NOT charge 18% service charge IN ADDITION to expected gratuities.

yes, there's a gratuities line on the bill....nobody expects you to add anything to it. But if you WANT to, you can.

That's a huge crimp in the argument.

 or the Carnival or RCCL boards. LOL...they're all the same. In fact' date=' of the 4, I totally believe NCL boards are the nicest (usually). :)

I have to agree. I would hope the poster would realize that it was HER mistake. I believe most people understand that if a service charge is attached already, that a gratuity is NOT required. For goodness sake, even if there was no 18% already added, the grautuity is still not mandatory.

But, she didn't like NCL and that's OK. Not everyone can like the same things and if everyone liked NCL, then how much would the cruise fares be  ??? Supply and demand folks. Let's keep the demand at a minimum!! ;)

All because of missing lobster. And her own many misunderstandings. But I'm sure it makes her feel better to blame NCL, not herself.

Sorry to hear you had some problems on your cruise. We enjoy sailing on various cruiselines--including NCL. We would never cruise on just one cruiseline because we enjoy experiencing different things on every cruise we take. Each line has different cabins, different restaurants, different production shows, even different casino games.

We have had some disappointments on some of our cruises but we did not stop sailing on those cruiselines because a few items didn't live up to our expectations. Our worse cruise ever was on RCCL Legend of the Seas in Hawaii. Fortunately, it was a one time experience.

We recently enjoyed an NCL west coast cruise. We have a RCCL caribbean cruise coming up in January and a Carnival cruise in February. We also have NCL Gem booked for January 2011.

For us, variety is the spice of life.

Yeah, there was more to her message than that, but you interpret it however you need to to make you feel better.

Then would you please explain it to us instead of just sniping to make you feel better.

Geez you and Sotto still at it? I think you both need a cruise... why don't you guys or girls (can't make any assumptions these days) turn off your computer and go call your travel agent and book one. :D
