San Diego Taxi Question!

We are trying to decide if it is cheaper to find a hotel with a free shuttle-- or one that we need to take a taxi. The question is: HOW MUCH ARE THE TAXIS FROM THE AIRPORT TO DOWNTOWN/GASLAMP AREA HOTELS? There are 6 of us traveling. Thank you in advance for your help!:)

Not sure if 6 people with luggage will fit in one taxi??

The airport is only 2miles from the cruise dock and some hotels. Other downtown hotels are maybe another mile so 3 miles at most.

Taxis start at $3+change and then another $3+change for each mile sooooo about maybe $11ish to the cruise dock area and maybe $15ish to the gaslamp.

You will probably need two cabs. There are very few van cabs in San Diego...nearly all are sedans and 6 people and their luggage won't work for a sedan. You could consider an exclusive shuttle through Cloud 9 (Supershuttle) although that would probably be close in price to two cabs.

In October there were 6 of us. We took a "minivan" cab from the airport to the pier - the fare was calculated at the same rate as a regular cab. No problem with luggage fitting in the back.

FYI... we went with Hotwire... ended up getting Sheraton Suites for $65 plus tax... it looks nice enough.... no shuttle... but the price was good...
