Golden Princess LIVE - 12/20/2009 Hawaii Christmas New Years Sailing

We're at dinner (early traditional seating) and our section is half empty. The waitress says this is very unusual on the first night. We suspect that many people didn't make the sailing due to the weather on the East coast but haven't been able to confirm.

We did this cruise four years ago on the Island (and want to do it again). I'm sure you're going to have a great time.

If people were trying to fly out the day of their cruise in December, I'm sure they're regretting it.

If you see a big group of kids and parents from a South American country (they did this cruise in 2004, 2005, I think 07 or 08, and maybe others) watch out. They cause a lot of problems. The parents don't supervise their kids and the parents treat their stewards and waitstaff like their personal servants. If you see any of the kids misbehave, take a photo and give a print to the supervisor at the passenger service desk.

Thank you for posting your "Live from ........". We will be following it with much interest. We're sailing in March, and reading about your cruise will add to our anticipation.

I feel sorry for anyone whose plans to board the ship for the Christmas cruise were ruined by the snowstorm. Hope all of them get to catch up with the ship at the first port.

We'll be watching for your future posts from the Golden.

Have a wonderful Holiday cruise.

AMEN to that -they ruined our Christmas Hawaii cruise.....it was terrible! The parents and grandparents were horrid also. The kids peed in the elevators several times a day, stole flowers off our table as we were DINING!!! Came to the dining room in their pajamas and slept on the floor! Raced and screamed up and down the hallways at 2am.

We and half of the ship said NEVER AGAIN !!! Apparently this happens every year. The crew was completely imtimidated by the hostile attitude and crude and insulting behavior of the adults. Those people should be ashamed of themselves and the negitive impression they leave behind.

HOPE THEY MISSED THE SHIP!

PS - they were from Mexico

I think at that point if the crew did nothing I might have to take matters into my own hands.....

Is it necessary to hijack the OP's thread? :(

I am happy to see that you are posting live!! I just got back on December 6th and had a great cruise. It will be great to read about your cruise.......especially since it is a Christmas and New Year's cruise!! Let us know what you find out about the number of folks that may have missed the ship. I hope it wasn't alot of people.

Hope your cruise is fantastic and that the group from Mexico decided to go somewhere else this year!

Thanks so much for doing a "live from". We are on the next sailing (Jan. 3), so I will be a faithful reader. I just got an email from Princess that Lee Childers is our CD. We had him on the Star last November on a cruise from SF to Santiago. I wonder if he will remember DH and I were part of the "crossing the equator ceremony". If you run into him you might mention that we will be on the next cruise. Is Frenchie also on the Golden?

We starting rocking around last night, but so far the motion is relatively mild and smooth. I did hear a few people tlaking about being ill in the piazza, though.

To the person who asked about time changes... I won't be able to help you much. We had 5:30 dinner last night and when we came back the steward had put a card in our cvabin telling us to turn the clocks back... but he was wrong! He apologized this morning. Normally they turn the clocks back on the first night, but he said they changed the schedule for the holiday cruise, so we could have an extra hour on Christmas Eve. So I suspect all of our time changes will be a little different from usual.

We got tickets to Ukelele and Flower Leis yesterday, at 1 pm, even though the signs clearly said they wouldn't give out tickets until this morning. If you want tickets to these, go AS SOON AS THEY OPEN, ebcause they go fast. But you should be able to get them if you go right away.

I'm not sure who 'Frenchie' is?

So far eveything is going well. Went to trivia and I'm about to go to the dining room for lunch. Any questions I missed?

FYI thought you would want to know, LouiseP (from your roll call) posted that her flight was cancelled, she and Seymore hope to join you in Hawaii

Thanks for letting us know. We are on board the Golden as well and LouiseP went to a great deal of effort to set up our Meet and Greet this afternoon. I can't believe she is going to miss it! I'm sure everyone will be very disappointed to learn that they missed the ship. I hope they are able to join us in Hilo.

I have to say that this is our first cruise on the Golden since her remodel and we are LOVING the International Cafe. What a great addition. It was such a nice sailaway last night. The last two years we did the Christmas cruise to Hawaii it was raining for our sailaway, but this year it was absolutely beautiful. We won two of the sailaway prizes, Casino credit for DH and a spa prize for me, so a very nice Christmas present to start off the cruise.

Lots of nice people onboard and all in the holiday spirit. The crew has been especially friendly and it always makes me feel for them, being so far from home and family at this time of year. One of the crew members was chatting with my daughter last night and remarked that she had a daughter the same age (10) at home. She was so sweet to my DD, and I couldn't help but think how much she must be missing her girl right now. I always appreciate the crew, but never more than at this time of year when they are working so hard to make a wonderful holiday for all of us while sacrificing time with their own families!

Thanks so much for posting. I can't believe we are on the next sailing. I think Christmas is taking second place this year on creating excitement. Will look forward to hearing of all your adventures. Where were you able to sign up for the lei making and ukelele lessons if it wasn't posted yet?

Hi,

If you could please let me know if see see many kids that appear to be in the 17 to 18 year old range. We are taking our son in March with a buddy of his. I am hoping that with it being closer to Spring Break there may be a few kids on board.

Thanks

Dan
