DC'sgirl Posted December 27, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2009 I have heard from other cruisers that the laundry room on the Pearl is closed, is this true? We did a week in Miami before our March cruise 2008, and it was awesome doing all our laundry on the first day and having clean clothes for the trip. Planning a similar trip this year and would love to not have to sit in a laundromat the day before the cruise.
Sparkylok6 Posted December 27, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 27, 2009 Yes it is true. ALL of the self serve laundry rooms on the NCL ships have been closed.
johnql Posted December 27, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 27, 2009 Sorry to say, but NCL closed all of the self-service laundromats on their ships.

Barb Nahoumi Posted December 27, 2009 #6 Share Posted December 27, 2009 When I was on the Pearl for its 14day Panama Canal Cruise, they had a $25.00/bag laundry special. I used this service, and it was very good. However, I wish that NCL would replace the laundry rooms. Barb
GuyFromCalifornia Posted December 27, 2009 #7 Share Posted December 27, 2009 On a seven day cruise on the Spirit last week they offered the $24.95 "Laundry Washing Promo" special, however, I don't think it was such a good deal. It was available on two days, Wednesday and Thursday, which were the fourth and fifth days of the seven-day cruise. One leaves the bag in the room before noon, either Wednesday or Thursday. Then on Saturday during the turn down service the clothes are returned. Just in time to pack them for a Sunday morning disembarking. So, basically, they're offering to do one load of laundry for $25 that I can't wear until I go home. Not much of a deal from my perspective. This $25 special makes more sense on a cruise longer than seven days. Mark
ramidon1 Posted December 27, 2009 #8 Share Posted December 27, 2009 Yes, its definitely closed. They are pushing the in-house laundry service heavily. This past week it was the $24.95 (or something like that) special on the Pearl. Our cabin was directly across from one of the prior laundry rooms & we specifically asked the room steward & he confirmed they are no longer in service. coka Posted December 28, 2009 #11 Share Posted December 28, 2009 I have been on week long cruises where the laundry special was offered on the second and fifth day with clothes getting returned the day after. I also thought (and I could be wrong) on one of my recent cruises the laundry special could be used any day. If I am wrong then I think it would be great to offer it every day! coka
sjnyc323 Posted December 28, 2009 #12 Share Posted December 28, 2009 I ust returned from the 13 night TA on the Gem on 12/12/09. Laundry special was offered 3 times and had to be used on days specified to get the $24.95 price. jen2681 Posted December 28, 2009 #13 Share Posted December 28, 2009 If you're using the $25 laundry bag, just keep in mind that the items you place in the bag all seem to be washed together. (And it's amazing how much you can stuff in the bag!) I used the service on the 11/15/09 Gem sailing and the items were returned neatly folded and on hangers - very impressed. We had heard about the color issue so we only put in a couple of my husbands white t shirts that he wore under other things and they did come back a nice shade of grey blue (mix of jeans, black pants, grey sweaters, etc.) - but we were clean and happy! (after two weeks in Europe, clean was good!!!) I would definitely use the $25 bag again. Jen
sjnyc323 Posted December 28, 2009 #14 Share Posted December 28, 2009 We used it all three times. Rolled all the clothes into the bag and then duct taped it so it wouldn't rip. We gots lots in the bag. it was well worth it. If you're using the $25 laundry bag, just keep in mind that the items you place in the bag all seem to be washed together. Azure Moon Posted December 28, 2009 #15 Share Posted December 28, 2009 As an FYI here were the laundry prices on the Spirit last week: Undergarments - $1.95 Socks (pair) - $1.95 Pajamas (2 pc) - $4.95 Nightgown/Negligee - $4.95 Bathrobe - $4.95 Shorts - $4.95 Jeans - $5.95 Pants/Slacks - $5.95 Skirt - $5.95 Dress - $7.95 T-shirt/Polo Shirt - $4.95 Dress/Casual Shirt - $5.95 Sweatshirt/Knit Top - $4.95 Formal Shirt/Blouse - $5.95 Bathing Suit - $2.95 Regular service, in by 9:00am, returned next day by 6:00pm. Express service (extra 50% charge), in by 9:00am, returned same day by 6:00pm. On our Dawn cruise I was told by our cabin steward that there wasn't a laundry bag special during that sailing. $5.95 is the charge we paid for one pair of slacks for my mother. She, rightly so, had a cow when she saw the price list, so she only sent out one item, though it would have been nice to have had more of her laundry done. I've heard that there were maintenance issues with the laundry rooms, that they wanted to use that space for more cabins, use that space for a casino (Jade conversion from Pride of Hawaii which didn't have a casino), fire hazard, .... I think some of that was true, but I think they did away with them because they weren't bringing in money, though NCL didn't even try to implement a charge for the washing machines and dryers. I think another reason may have something to do with environmental issues, but that is pure guess on my part. But it doesn't really matter now because the laundry rooms have been done away with. :( I do miss them, though. Other than that one pair of slacks for my mother, my husband and I haven't used the bag "special"/laundry service and I'm going to try hard not to on future cruises. I preferred doing my own laundry. Rare uneamie Posted December 28, 2009 #16 Share Posted December 28, 2009 Hmm...seems to me that if it cost more to have my socks washed then it does to go buy a new pair of socks......then I will just pack more socks and avoid the cost.
Down-Unders Posted December 28, 2009 #17 Share Posted December 28, 2009 Does anyone know WHY they closed the laundry rooms? More nickle and diming, on the Sun our neighbors had their clothes ruined by laundering all colors together.
