International Caffe

Only charges in the International Cafe is for specialist coffees - cappuccino, latte, etc. Everything else - cakes, rolls, salads, soup are free. This was an excellent and popular place if you didn't want or couldn't face major food.

It's all free, except the specialty coffee, and the gelato. The gelato is $1.50 for 3 large scoops.

Good reason to get a Coffee Card so you can enjoy the specialty coffees and unlimited "real" brewed coffee to go with those great rolls and Danish pastries.

I went through every single deck plan and couldn't find "International Cafe" anywhere....is there one on the Grand?

I saw a picture of one of these cafe's before and it appeared to have fresh pastry (not the typical run of the mill donuts). That would make my husband a very, very happy man. He also likes Gelato and at $1.50 for 3 scoops, well that just may be the best deal on the ship! Especially if it is good Gelato.

If there is one on the Grand, I can just see that he will be eating pastries from the beginning to end...and he doesn't gain an ounce. Argh....

We're on the Star Princess in April - first time cruisers; I note here that you pay for specialty coffees but how about a regular cup of coffee or tea, are they free?

Regular coffee & teabags are included - room service, buffet, and dining room. Just be aware coffee is made from syrup not beans. Some people can't stand the stuff. DH, I, and another couple we travel with find it acceptable. I wouldn't want to drink it all the time, however, it is fine for a couple of weeks. Usually a nice selection of teabags in the buffet otherwise Lipton teabags in the diningroom.

If you buy a coffee card, they punch the card for each specialty coffee (pasterie and diningroom) and will give you unlimited brewed coffee from beans (pasterie) as long as you have an unused punch. Any punches not used during this cruise can be used during future cruises - just bring the card with unused punches.

Enjoy your cruise.

I have the 2010 Europe Princess book and on page 66 it lists the different ships and claims there is an international cafe'. However I can not find it on any deck plan. We loved this area on the Golden last July. Hope it is in fact on the Grand. Sailing 4/9/10.

It's there. :)

Pia, unless I am mistaken, the Grand has not gotten the International Cafe as of yet. Not unless it has undergone another refit since last January. I remember it was supposed to be put in, but was cancelled several times. Has this happened just recently? As it did not have the International Cafe when we sailed last January.

Don't know for sure, but I'm looking at a Grand schematic and it shows one there.

Hummmmmm, I hadn't heard where they added it yet. And I know the dates it was supposed to be done were changed several times. But last I heard, they had not put it in. Hopefully soon though!

Take a peek at the plan. It shows the Cafe adjacent to the Michelangelo.

It may show exactly that, but you know these deck plans. They print them off long in advance when something has been scheduled to be done. Then it is cancelled, but the deck plans still show it there. Maybe someone who has sailed on the Grand recently can confirm it truely was put in, or if it is still waiting?

I will post that specific question now.
