beluga belles Posted January 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2005 This is my first time ever on a cruise and I am traveling on TP for my honeymoon on 2/2005. Any helpful advise would be welcome! Any other travelers for Feb? Is there any special excursions that are better than others? What to bring or things to put on "a must to do list!" Is earlier dinner better than later? Thanks much!
czarinahil Posted January 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2005 When is your embarkation date? There is a whole group of us going on the TP on 2/11 and we have a roll call thread with a lot on information on the Princess Roll Call board. Toto2Kansas Posted January 14, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2005 If this is actually your very first cruise, please bring along some type of seasickness prevention. At times, with this small of a ship, you can get some real motion. Not trying to scare you but would hate for your honeymoon to be ruined. :)

beluga belles Posted January 14, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Thanks much for the info. Ithink we are planning on the motion patch. We heard it to be good. Our travel agent said to take even before the flight-which is 15 hours long:eek:
Toto2Kansas Posted January 14, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2005 I tried the patch many years ago on a very rough cruise, they do have some very strong side effects, such as dry mouth. I might suggest you take along some Bonine just in case the patches aren't what you think they are. Always better to be prepared, especially when you travel somewhere that some things are not available for purchase. And definitely don't wait until you feel ill before using something. An ounce of prevention is definitely worth a pound of cure in this circumstance. Much easier to prevent seasickness then try and rid yourself of it after it takes hold. Have a great Honeymoon Cruise. captbill Posted January 14, 2005 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Some folks have reported side effects from the patch (Scopolamine), but my wife always uses it and has never had a problem. It might be a good idea to give it a "test run" some weekend at home, just to make sure you don't have a problem during your vacation. Here's some information on Scopolamine: www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a682509.html Have a great cruise! .
beluga belles Posted January 14, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Thanks, we will read up on it. Is there others that are more looked at than others? Sheri
Rare KKB Posted January 14, 2005 #10 Share Posted January 14, 2005 It was AMAZING! I used the patch and was thrilled. We had moderate waves one day, and patch was wearing off that night--I was a hair queasy. But new patch took care of it. I was lucky--no side effects. Dramamine makes me kooky. ENJOY! We had late dinner, 2 honeymooning couples at our table and we all had a BLAST! Fav parts for me: (in no particular order) 1-tablemates--but you can't control that one! 2-hanging at the pool--which normally isn't my thing 3-casino--won big first day, certainly helped!; bingo fun, too--who'd've thought??!! and "horse racing"--go figure 4-burgers and pizza on Star were outstanding! 5-Paradise Beach in Cozumel; Carlos & Charlies was a hoot, too 6-endless entertainment; choices of things to do 7-meeting CC members!!!:o 8-upgrade from interior to exterior w/ large window--again, you can't control 9-virtually every minute w/ DH, and enjoyably so!! 10-the total escape from the outside worl 11-London Pub Night--what a hoot 12-Daily Activities TV w/ activities directors--hysterical! 13-HOOKED ON CRUISING!! Happy cruising! Kristin 14-Chocolate Banana drink of the day--a milkshake w/ Kahlua!!!!
owtrspace Posted January 15, 2005 #11 Share Posted January 15, 2005 You must definitely do Marc's Motu Picnic if you are in Huahine. Do it independently as it lasts longer and is less expensive than doing one through the ship. Also, do use motion sickness medication.... the ship can rock in open water. It is absolutely fine cruising through the islands.... I found that 1/2 of a non-drowsy dramamine first thing every morning worked fine. Definitely get some flowers from the Marche in Papeete for your stateroom! Have fun!!!!!
K32682 Posted January 15, 2005 #12 Share Posted January 15, 2005 We did this itinerary in January 2004. The Marquesan Islands are spectacular if you like remote places. There isn't much to do on them and were I doing it again (and we might) I'd take the Princess excursion on Nuku Hiva to see more of the island. There weren't any independent excursions on offer when we went. The Marquesas are fabulously unspoiled. One of the better memories of the visit is a group of school kids coming up to us to practice their English. And that's another point, knowing a few words in French helps because there isn't much English spoken. Take rain gear. It is the rainy season but don't sweat it. When it does rain it usually does so briefly, just enough time to duck into a friendly tavern for a Hinano or two. If you are adventurous try poisson cru, a local delicacy featuring marinated raw tuna in coco milk. It's excellent. Rangiroa was the undiscovered gem for me. Great beaches and a fascinating place to walk around. It's an atoll and you can walk from one side to the other in just a few minutes. The sea days from Moorea to the Marquesas are a bit lengthy but there is enough to do on the ship and you are on your honeymoon so passing the time shouldn't be a problem. I didn't find sea sickness a problem but then I'm not predisposed to motion sickness in any event. My wife however is but other than one evening she didn't find the ship's motion bothersome. It's a great trip and a great part of the world. Enjoy
laurieb Posted January 15, 2005 #13 Share Posted January 15, 2005 make sure you bring some high spf sunscreen and USE it. you can burn even in overcast, and a bad sunburn can ruin a great vacation. we used a 48, then 36, then 30 and still tanned well, but no bad burn like last time
