INSIDERS CABIN Posted January 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2010 We enjoyed a 5-day stay prior to cruise and did not put on bathing suits once since days were very cool, but we had a great time without the beach or pool! Home base was suite at Gallery One on Sunrise. We took the water taxi the first day, boarding at hotel dock, going to lunch at shooters...then reboarding for the evening trip to see the holiday lights-cost $13 per person for about 5 hours of activity, as well as some coupon discounts to use at stops along the way! Most of the taxi guides were interesting. Next day we visited the Bonnet House and grounds and discovered an interesting Chicago connection. Great guide! Admission about $20-or no charge with a reciprocal pass from botanic garden at home- check your local museum memberships. Then, nature hike thru Hugh Taylor Birch state park. Nice walking trail. Home/museum on property closed except weekends. $2 admission for pedestrians. Also visited Galleria Mall to buy sandals (hard to find up North in December.) About .9 mile on sidewalks to Borders, theatres, more restaurants. Also walk beach side; wide sidewalks all the way. Restaurant choices we made were Capital Grille (lunch burgers and salads great), PF Chang (late pm carry out), Big Louis PIzza (delivery to hotel-bargain prices), Seasons 52, mall gelato stand, and best of all, Canyon for excellent SW food and prickly pear margaritas. INSIDERS CABIN Posted January 4, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted January 4, 2010 Thanks, royal cruz--i agree--we stayed many times at pier 66 and embassy suites, then discovered this spot and have been quite happy with location! If you want to add any things to our future to-do list, please do so!
BlueHerons Posted January 4, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2010 Sounds like a lovely time! Funnily enough, when we go we almost never hang out at the beach or pool.:D

You can take the water taxi to Las Olas Blvd for shopping and dining and also walk west on the Riverwalk from there for a scenic view of downtown. Other than that, you've covered the area pretty darn well!
