Can Room Stewards Access the In-Room Safes?

This is true......it is not security, housekeeping or the pursers that can open the safes........maintenance do.........been there done that:D

So unless you see a maintenance man in your cabin snooping around........you have no worries......

Actually ours was an officer I assume with the maintenance dept because that is who pursers desk contacted. As the people prior to us didnt leave it open. A white Shirt person came to unlock it and we had to sign a log with date and time of his assistance.

Two friends and I are leaving for our cruise on The Conquest on 01/17 and one of my friends recently read online about 'cruiseship safety' and to think twice about leaving jewelry in the in-room safe because the room stewards may know the access codes to get into the safes. I personally hadn't heard of this before, and have on previous cruises left my diamond engagement and wedding rings inside the safe when going to port (for fear of losing them in the ocean when snorkeling, etc.). I think she may be too paranoid about this, yet she says she'd rather wear her wedding rings in the ocean vs. leaving them in the safe. I'd love to hear any feedback y'all might have.

Oh, another option she said she'd look into is to see if the ship has a safety deposit box we could use for our rings...again, I am thinking she's a bit too paranoid about this, but then maybe she knows something I don't??

Thanks!

Kelly

No. The safe is only opened by the card YOU chose to use for that purpose.

The ONLY exception is security. They can open any safe - which is a good thing considering the number of folks who lose the chosen card....:D

68 Cruises on Carnival and many, many more on other lines...never had anything stolen - ever.

This last cruise I used an expired gift card and had the casino guy punch a hole in it and put it on my lanyard with my sail and sign card.

BTW please check your save thoroughly at the end of your cruise. Lat week I took the mat out and the sponge that sits at the edge just to make sure nothing was left and someone's ring was there. The pursers desk was closed so now I am trying to find out who it belongs to(it has an unusual first name on it).
