Calls from Carnival?

Booked a cruise this morning and had a call on my phone this evening at dinner. I didn't answer as we were out... no voicemail.

Pulled the number up on my phone and it said Carnival. I called the number back and it said the offices were closed so I called the 888 number listed on the Carnival site. The guy was a real jerk saying he could not help me and I have to wait for them to call me back.

OK, so, why would they be calling me?

My guess is an upgrade offer? Funny, my phone just rang and I was busy making dinner. No voicemail either..now I wish I had caller ID..

I'm sure you will have a fantastic cruise..and if it's something important they will call back! :)

Did you get a email confirmation? Did you plug the booking number into your profile and does everything look ok??

Beats me, maybe you are the lucky winner of the prize for today.

Actually, I didn't get any e-mails from Carnival which I found to be a bit odd myself. The confirmation number pulls up everything and everything looks good on that end.

Hmmm, now I am wondering why I've not gotten an e-mail.

The number I was called from was 305-599-2600. You could always hit *69 on your phone. Odd thing was, the call came in around 7:30, it was not much later than that when I called them back...

I told the jerk of a guy that I guess I'll never know as I never get home from work before 5 and then the offices are closed. I am going in 17 days so I am on a different cruise. Guess I'll never know. Hope my cruise isn't cancelled:eek:

When he asked if he could help me with anything else I said "Well, you didn't help me at all, buhbye" and hung up.

I got a call from them out of the blue, wanting to "help me book an upcoming Carnival cruise", basically a cold sales call. May have been a random call to you.

This scared the crap out of me saying calling from Carnival, my 75 yr old mom is on one right now. Thought maybe she went overboard, mom does drink some :)

Oh boy, that would scare the bajeepers out of me too!

Insurance eh... I'm looking at other options for that.

My PVP called today and left me a message too - funny, because I just started looking on the Carnival site - with hopes of talking my DH into another cruise. I never had a PVP until after my last sailing - he called and left a message asking how everything was. I've been on 4 Carnival Cruises so far - hopefully number 5 will be this fall!!

Starting to wonder what I've gotten myself into. Never got an e-mail to confirm the booking etc. Got to work this morning and had a cancellation e-mail saying they were unable to secure payment. I've was pretty busy and knew I would lose my temper so I called and had my bride to be give the bank a call to see why they didn't clear it and then call Carnival to fix it.

She called the bank, bank says they never had anything come in from Carnival. So Nikki called Carnival they said the bank rejected the charge. Nikki told the lady what the bank said and the lady told her how interesting it was that the bank would say that... she also managed to sell Nikki $200 worth of insurance for the two of us. I was going to buy elsewhere...

SO...

Cruise is re-booked, same ID number etc. What's next?

Did you by any chance go into the Carnival website and look up certain cruises prior to calling and booking? If thats the case, you most likely signed in using your personal information, i.e, telephone #. If that is the case, then the call might have been from a Carnival Rep asking you if they could help you without knowing that you had already booked...

And while we're all here.. I want to go ahead and buy about $1000 OBC before we go for excursions and anything else that comes along. If I get 2 $500 funship dollars and have them marked OBC that'll do it, right? Do I do this before I make the final payment on the cruise? If we don't use up the full $1000 will they give us the balance back when we leave?

I'm hoping to get a behind the fun tour, a couple excursions ( Belize, Rotan and possibly Cozumel) and a few other things so I doubt there will be much left at the end of the week. I cannot drink ( medications) and she does not drink a lot so... Tips are built into the cruise total.

Ok, looks like Carnival finally submitted the charges to the bank and they're pending. Looks like somebody dropped the ball yesterday! I had Nikki give the bank a call a little bit ago to verify. She did but also told me to chill out... something I don't do very well.

That number is from the PVP department. I wouldn't worry. I get those calls soon after I have visited the Carnival website. It is a sales pitch to book a cruise. The system doesn't seem intelligent enough to know if you have booked one.

Same as the system that sends out letters. I got one a couple of days ago that said I hadn't cruised in a "very long time" and I should call them for some special offers. Well, I guess 12/10/09 was eons ago. Seems just like yesterday.

Well, that's nearly a month ago!

Not sure why they called last night, not too worried. I am still a bit peeved that they cancelled my booking this morning and then sold Nikki insurance when she called back to find out why the he.. they cancelled the booking.

Have you looked up trip insurance from another source? Can't you cancel the Carnival trip insurance?

I just put $600 OBC on yesterday. I called the Bon Voyage department and she was able look up my booking and everything so I didn't have to receive the certificates. She also told me you couldn't use this obc for the casino. So I asked if you get it back if you don't use it all. They claim they mail you a check back within 3 weeks of the end of the cruise.

This is confusing because there have been several different threads indicating that you can use OBC for the casino and tips & to ignore the fine print on the certificates. Also, several people claim you do receive the money back on the last day of the cruise under your door in the form of a check.

I wasn't sure who to believe so I also paid my tips in advance in the cruise price. I will just see what happens if I don't use all my credit.

Yeah, I've heard several different stories on OBC return. Tips are paid in the total price, We might hit the casino and spend a few bucks but it's not of any concern to either of us... mostly want a nice OBC for a couple excursions. She is going to hit the spa when I do the behind the fun tour and a little shopping
