Fog?

Hello,

 

I know someone who recently returned from an Alaska cruise. She said there was usually more fog during the morning hours and we should try to schedule any sightseeing tours later in the day if possible.

 

So is it usually more foggy in the mornings or is it pretty much unpredictable?

Hard to predict. We had one heavy fog day on our first Alaska cruise and the fog lasted most of the day.

Fog is very hard to predict in Alaska, it can be in the morning, afternoon or indeed all day.

That's what I was told when I called to book the dog sledding/glaicer tour last year. However we didn't see any fog the entire week.

Did the 7.5 hour with Chilkoot out of Skagway in 2008. In the morning, on the train, there was no fog. In the afternoon, coming back to town on the van - you couldn't see but a few feet!:eek: Our driver said he was glad that he knew the road like the back of his hand!:D

We were told the same thing so scheduled our tours for late morning or afternoon. We were the first group that got to fly the scenic route to our glacier landing. The ones before us had to go in a more direct route and couldn't see the scenery we did. So, based on what the others said, it sounds like it can be either, or, or both.

This is a complete myth. Fog can and does occur any time. It is foolish to base planning of tours based on something that can not be predicted. IF you go with the above, AND book only later tours, you then have NO opportunity for a possible reschedule.
