Jan 4 tendered into Spots Bay

Just to let you know the Crown Princess could not get into Georgetown on Jan 4 due to wind. We went around to Spots Bay on the south side and there were plenty of taxis available to get to town and the beach, however many excursions were cancelled.

This happens to many ships at Grand Cayman. It is much better to move the tender stop than to miss the whole island experience.

How far from George Town and Seven Mile is Spots Bay? Is it any closer to Rum Point than the George Town port? I imagine taxi rates are different from Spots?

Spotts is about 4 miles east of George Town. That does put it closer to Rum Point, but not by much.

How windy was windy?

The issue was wind direction rather than strength.

 

As the United Stated experienced an arctic blast of cold weather moving south from Canada, the Western Caribbean saw winds shift. In the wake of the front passing, the normally easterly winds veered to come from the north.

 

North winds allow waves from the open sea to reach George Town Harbour. When this happens the tendering process is moved around to the alternate tender site at Spotts which is on the south shore of the island.

Just got back from our cruise.

 

We had to drop anchor at Spotts also on Jan. 13th....

 

It was $5 per person into Georgetwon by cab. (about 15 minute ride)

 

All excursions to Sting Ray City were cancelled.

 

Our guide from Sting Ray Sailing met us anyway to let us know in person.

Told us that they had only been allowed out to SRC 2 out of the last 13 days this year so far.

Weather has been that bad. (I guess like our crap US weather this year so far)
