need2travel Posted January 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2010 I'm hoping someone here can help me with this: We're boarding the Star in Copenhagen and disembarking on Civitavecchia, with one of our ports being Barcelona. After the cruise, we're flying from Rome to Barcelona for a post-cruise holiday. While we're in Barcelona during the cruise, we'd like to take our larger suitcase to the hotel for safe-keeping until we return a few days later for the land portion of our trip. Flying without that heavy suitcase would be a whole lot easier. We've checked with the hotel and this arrangement is acceptable to them. The question is this: Do I need to make special arrangements with the ship to take my luggage off? I assume there'd be Spanish customs to deal with. Does anyone have any experience they could share. Thanks for your help.
paul929207 Posted January 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2010 I would check with Princess. Spanish customs may want to clear the bag. Since both countries are EU they may not bother.
pris993 Posted January 12, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2010 Agree check with Princess. Years ago we got off a cruise early in France, ship knew in advance, we did not clear any customs at the time.
bandt Posted January 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2010 Hi there We have never travelled on Princess so I cannot comment on their policy for offloading luggage during a port of call. Having said this, if you have registered your credit card for payment of onboard expenses, I think that there is no reason you could not offload a suitcase - it's not like you are trying to do a "midnight flit"!!! We used to live near BCN and generally have gifts for friends when we stop there now on a cruise - there has never been any problem. As for Customs, if all the ports of call on your cruise are in the European Union you should be able to walk straight through. Hope this helps B & T
need2travel Posted January 13, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Oh, my, you're all so helpful and so quick to answer! I've had this question on the Ports of Call/Spain board for over a week and didn't get a single nibble. Being able to drop the bag will be sooo much easier. Thanks again for your help.
