39august Posted January 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2010 A few years ago my friends cruised on Infinity and were delighted to find that in the buffet area at night, there was a sit-down dinner offered with tablecloths and wait service. Is this still true of that class and any other X class ships? Do I understand correctly that there is no evening buffet as an alternative to the main dining room? kitty9 Posted January 20, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2010 It is a casual area with a sit down experience in the buffet area. It's the place where many go if they don't want to get dressed up on formal nights, and for others who just like the more casual atmosphere. There is a very limited menu, and a small buffet area with your basic salads and such.

To add to the above, the Solstice class ships have a better selection in the buffet area however the Casual dining is not available on these ships... Lsimon Posted January 21, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2010 As far as I know they still have the sit down service on the M-Class, and C-Class. They also have a limited buffet every night in addition to the sit down area: Pizza, salad bar, pasta bar, and sushi/stir fry station. On some cruises they've varied the sushi/stir fry station and have different asian selections on different nights.
joanne59 Posted January 21, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2010 We enjoyed eating in this area on our last night onboard and found it to be a great alternative. Much quieter than the MDR and the menu was very similar. It is my understanding that the wait staff are new employees in training. We enjoyed the experience, loved the flexibility of dining at the time that was agreeable to us, and would not hesitate to go back. We never were able to sample the sushi because Michael's Club happy hour was our hang out during those early evening hours. Next time we will have to check it out...happy cruising

39august Posted January 21, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted January 21, 2010 Thanks for all the info. So, Solstice doesn't have this alternative. Is there any other alternative, other than room service, to the MDR on that class?
Gonzo70 Posted January 21, 2010 #9 Share Posted January 21, 2010 Thanks for all the info. So, Solstice doesn't have this alternative. Is there any other alternative, other than room service, to the MDR on that class? Yes. Bistro on 5 is a casual specialty restaurant specializing in crepes and panini sandwhiches; there is a $5 per person cover charge. The buffet area is open - it is just not a full elaborate buffet like during lunch. However there are several choices there - sushi, pizza, pasta, and usually a few other entrees and some sides and desserts as well. This area is also casual. There are other specialty restaurants (Muranos, Silk Harvest and Tuscan Grill, but these follow the dress code of the MDR).
