stubbornoldowl Posted February 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2010 We are stopping in Rome on our cruise this month. Because we were in Rome for 3 days this past Oct., we have decided to take a ship excursion to Tarquinia to see the Etruscan history. Has anyone done this and did you find it interesting? Rare Hlitner Posted February 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2010 Some have previously posted that they enjoyed their Tarquinia excursions. We are not in that group as we found most of the Etruscan ruins to be somewhat boring and too darn "ruined." We find a visit to Ostia Antica much more interesting, but this is about an hour from Civitavecchia (its located close to the FCO airport). Rare cruisemom42 Posted February 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2010 I think Hank hit the nail on the head. If you are history nerds, or "ruins" hounds, you'll love Tarquinia. (I did :)) I did find it pretty atmospheric in the area around the tombs -- eery, but in a good way. The museum is well worth a visit, but again, I love museums.
