Solstice 1/31/10 - 2/7/10: What was hot, what was not!

Thanks Ray-Ray for all the detailed information! We are on Eclipse on 1st June and eager to learn what Solstice Class has to offer. However as we are regular cruisers and have attended many art auctions, and with a considerable knowledge of the art world, and in particular European art, we have been seriously concerned at the pieces being auctioned and over-emphasised as being originals or genuine limited editions, when they obviously could not be so, and to that end have checked out various reputable websites for further information which really should be read by anyone who actually wants to PURCHASE at an on board art auction, and not just enjoy the auction for entertainment purposes. People love art and having an excellent reproduction of some work of art which could never ever be purchased as an original will surely give as much pleasure to the cruise purchaser as to the owner of the original, just for it's beauty. HOWEVER so long as they are aware of what they are buying, and that the chances of any truly great original hanging around a cruise ship for months rather than being in a private collection or museum are extremely remote, then they may not be paying the true rate for a reproduction but an enhanced rate in the belief that what they hear described IS the original. PLEASE REMEMBER the old sayings "If it seems too good to be true, then it is too good to be true" and "a fool and his money are soon parted". In the heady cruise atmosphere it is easy to be lulled into a false sense of security and miss the obvious signs. That is not to say that any of the art auctions on board are fraudulent, rather that purchasers hear what they want to hear, and the information given on each artist is usually very informative and accurate. However reproductions are just that: REPRODUCTIONS. Beautiful in many many cases and well worth buying for your home or as gifts, but at the price of reproductions, not that of originals. The link should you want to check this out, and just one of many, is

http://www.cruisemates.com/articles/feature/ParkWestAuctions3.cfm and after paying thousands of dollars for your cruise it is worth readsing before deciding to pay thousands more unnecessarily.

Thank you but did you read my review?

The art I refer to is on the ship through a third party contract and is not for sale. I can't speak to the art auction on the ship. Rule of thumb is to avoid these as they are over priced.
