Hello. I may have already posted this question somewhere but can't find it now . However i will ask it again

We have just booked our very first cruise - the Pharoahs and the Promised land on the 'Spirit' 17/03/10 and have a few questions to ask but the one i'm curious about is the dress code in the resturants especially the formal evening as I hate suits and ties.:(

Hello :)

The main dining room requests long trousers and shirt (short sleeve or even polo style) for evening meals but crops/shorts are accepted for lunch and dinner. We did see someone being politely turned away for not wearing long trousers recently in the evening. You can wear casual clothing at any time in the LIdo (self-service restaurant).

You can dress casually if you choose to dine in the Lido restaurant on Gala night (there is a very good choice of menu in there) - no need for any formality at all. On the night of the Gala dinner though in the main dining room, you will find that there is a good proportion of DJs (and ladies in their long dresses) and mainly suits if not DJs. Most people do make a special effort on Gala night and get out their glad rags. A few people wear just shirt and tie - but do look a little out of place - however, you can get away with that level of 'formailty' at a push if you feel comfortable dressed far more casually than over 95% of other diners. You can't wear jeans though!! Even on 'normal' evenings in the main restaurant, it's clear that most people make an effort and dress up a bit - but just smart trousers and shirt is more than acceptable.

Hope this helps! And enjoy your first cruise :)

For future reference. If you want to find all of your posts click on Members List (menu at bottom of masthead), Search Members, type in your screen name and click go. Look down the list that is displayed, find your screen name and click on the Find posts button. There are likely other ways, maybe through User CP, but I don't know them.

Just to clear up any potential confusion, should it be 'breakfast and lunch' ?

If you eat in the Lido on formal night you will still be able to visit the shows, bars and casino etc

You originally posted it on Pharoahs & the Promised Land thread, here is a copy of my reply on that thread.

"Re dress code, It states in my personal guide which is sent with your tickets, there is no dress code to speak of. By night its smart casual. This means its full length trousers and either open necked shirt or polo shirt for gents.

Once a week there's the Captains Cocktail Party and Gala Dinner, its your chance to dress to impress. For gents it means a Smart suit and tie, or dinner jacket. Ladies meanwhile pull out all the stops, with elegant evening dresses.

If you would rather keep smart casual, the lido café is open as normal on gala night."

We've just returned from the Destiny and we never saw anyone with jeans on in the main restaurant.

also been on Destiny and whilst wouldnt go in my pale stonewashed ones I wore jeans on a few nights with a fancy top but they were dark ones

the whole point is dress up if you like but as long as you dont go in shorts/footy shirts etc smart casual is what you need

have fun-we are on the same cruise but departing 3rd march

there was alot more younger people on our recent cruise so there was quite a few wearing jeans and i have done quite a bit in the past also

Thanks for that, I don't mind wearing trousers now and then, just not into the suit thing! had 20 years of wearing them!

You won't need to wear a suit except on the formal nights. If you want to risk jeans -that's up to you, but as I said we were onboard at the end of January, there was a good mixture of ages and no-one wore jeans in the Seven Seas restaurant. If you want to eat in the Lido you will be ok.
